If he's going to Chicago, I want Saad back. So not likely to happen. - hertzman
Interesting few days ahead.I would not be opposed to that deal if Kessler wasn't hurt so much. Back in 2011 he was one of the best two way players in the League...

Ship him to Tampa, i want Connolly - Whiskey-Tango
I bet you wouldn't if he wasn't from B.C. I'm not on board with trading Kesler for a bunch of hopefuls, as promising as they may be. I'd prefer a young player who's shown at least some ability to be effective in the NHL to be part of the return. |

He won't get traded at the TDL, draft is much more likely for him and Edler. |

Teams that will value Kesler the most (and will likely give up more than others to get him) will be teams that are legitimate contenders, looking for extra centre depth for cup runs over the next 3 seasons, or a team like Columbus who might think Kesler could put them over the hump and get them into the playoffs, and help generate some extra revenue. - nucks_94
Agreed. Kesler would only waive for a a decent-sized American market anyways IMO. |

Edler looked good with Karlsson in the Olympics.
I'd consider Kesler + Tanev for Karlsson. |

I disagree. If you're the team trading for Kes, would you rather have him for 3 playoff runs or 2? The Canucks have the cap room to take a contract back from the team to make the cap work for them now. I think his maximum value is right now, and I think they should trade him now (I never really thought that I would say that...) |

Gagner is still only 24 and had a lights out year last year. Season got derailed this year cause of the injury but last half of the season he has picked it up susbstantially - creidwx2
Yeah....that's never happening. Kesler wouldn't waive to go to Edmonton.

It was just an example. Teams like Phoenix, Dallas, Minnesota, Washington, Carolina, Tampa etc would also fit the bill. |

Haters ragging on Kesler's value. Gotta love it.
Erat got Forsberg for nashville.... Erat.... Ya Kesler couldn't get Kadri...He's clearly only worth Sutter and a 2nd... - 89_hockey
I get where you're coming from but I hate comparing past trades where in hindsight someone got raped. Similar to when guys justify giving someone a bad contract because they are better than player x that has a worse contract.
If he was truly being shopped? Its hard to say what the return would be. Could be picks and high end prospects? Could be a one for one but rarely happens. |

Washington definitely got raped in that Erat trade... and won't get much if they try and re-trade!!

Many teams could use Kesler but agree that it would the SC contenders that would see most value in acquiring his services IMO. Kesler's already been showcased as an effective winger, so the dual eligibility gives him added value.
The question, as always, is what would they be willing to give in return.
I keep revisiting MIN as option given that it's close to his home state of Michigan, they're a team on the rise with a good mix of vets and youth, and they may have the youthful assets to get a "hockey trade" done. |

That trade should have been veto'd
I look forward to whether or not Kesler meets with the media today. Someone pointed out Kesler's Twitter page: No mention of the Canucks whatsoever, just his American Olympic stuff and says "Offical Twitter Page of Ryan Kesler"

Not to mention 2 fellow American Olympians in Suter and Parise that are considered elite players. I think Kesler would waive to go there in a heartbeat. |

Kesler's media availability summary:
-Has never asked for a trade
-His heart is in Van, his son was born here, he wants to make the playoffs with this group
-Has never been asked to waive his no trade clause
-Doesn't want to be asked about it anymore, or his teammates to be asked about it. Too much of a distraction.
-Excited for heritage classic
-Hand is feeling better than expected. May play tomorrow

Canucks wouldn't want to deal him within the conf unless there's a piece like Granlund. You have to remember Minny's window is going to close soon. Parise and Suter only have 10+ years left.
Blue Jackets won't part with Johannson and if they would, it's a no brainer.
Wings are a good target if Edler is added to the deal and they have some interesting pieces.

The reason why he gets hurt so much is that he plays the most minutes out of any forward in the NHL (this year anyway). 22:13 average. Add that to the fact that the canucks have the toughest schedule in the NHL, the guy simply doesn't have a chance. |
