I bet Lui is probably pulling a MSL and acting like a little biaaa about this whole Kesler situation.

If the whole league was stammering to acquire nucker, but i was impossible to move because of me "contract", my ego would be bruised.

- Gullzy

Did you just confuse me with Kesler or are you just using that as an example?

And yes, a lot of other hockey pools have shown interest in me as a GM

Similar to Tanev, under the radar under undrafted free agents.
- Nucker101

@#$@# who woulda thunk - nice job Nieuwendyk et al

Well, I guess we at least managed to land Tanev

Edit: now please tell me how a 6' 225 local boy (Surrey BC and Seattle Thunderbirds WHL) goes under the wire like that?

P.S. last year in Jr (2011)

Seattle Thunderbirds WHL 72 8 51 59 139 -25 (yes, the plus minus needs to be addressed but that can easily be remedied with good coaching, maturation, and proper development -plus, just noted that 2011 Thunderbird team was shi*tty)

I have Dillon in another pool and he's great for those peripherals (with respect to dynasty pools, he's also very young so you have to figure there is at least some offensive upside - in fact, he's already shown signs of that aspect of the game).

I would absolutely LOVE to have this guy on the Canucks (and/or Gudbrandson). Smash mouth hockey 101 (he's only 23 and a local boy as well and plays a tough game )

- Zogg

Yeah, I picked him up in my other pool. He's got a lot of promise—started out good offensively as well, but he's quieted down in that department.

WTF??? Dillon was signed as a free agent in 2011? Good @#$@# grief

Edit: anyone have any further info on the signing?

- Zogg

Was a college FA (I think?). Quite a few teams tried to tempt him, but DAL won...

Probably offered a solid ELC and some bonuses.

The same way that "local boy" Jamie (frank)ing Benn slips all the way down to the 5th round.

Canucks scouts need to pay more attention to their own backyard when looking for talent. Any half decent talent scout in the Western Hemisphere should have at least heard of Benn; reading a local paper while taking a dump in a Nanaimo Subway, waiting for a Ferry, or something....

There's seems to be way too much local BC talent that the Canucks pass up on that gets selected by other teams in the later rounds. It's sad really.

There's far more to the story than just "the local scouts missed the local boy."

There is a thread on HF about the Benn thing.

He had serious question marks regarding aspects of his game, but I forget what the issue was.

Teams take shots on players and whenever they pay off all you hear is "so and so missed out on this player"...

More of a Dallas scouting success than a Canuck scouting failure.

I just posted round one draft order **if the pool ended this week** on the pool board.

This will change, of course, based on whatever transpires between now and the end of the season.

I tried to sort out the picks that were traded (first round only), but might have missed one or two.

I'll sort out the later rounds before the end of the season.

I know it's ways away, but how is that draft going to take place? Managers will have to drop players as they draft them? Will those dropped players be immediately available? When's the draft going to take place? Will Nucker be trading again by then ?

I think we'll do an informal draft, since it likely won't be more than 3 rounds or so.

Once the league opens again next season (usually happens in early August), I'll input the rosters and everyone else will go in the FA list.

I'll get the managers to message me who they want when it's their turn, and who they want to drop (that player will then be available to draft), if they need to drop someone to stay within the roster limit.

As far as potentially having every team drop a couple players into the draft ahead of time, as soon as everyone votes on the poll to drop bench spots, I can figure out if we need to start a poll for that.

I guess everyone is a bit frustrated when you see guys like Lucic, Kane, Gallagher, Dillon (and Benn - although it seem you indicated there were some other issues?) etc being passed over. It's like the Canucks don't scout the Dub.... what are your thoughts?

It happens with every team and players from every league in the CHL. Hindsight is 50/50.

I agree although I'm nonetheless curious if, given the same set of circumstances (i.e. let's say all of the above mentioned players had actually played in the QMJHL but were passed over), would result in any sort of major uproar from Habs fans? or other similar examples in terms of hockey-mad markets.

From what I read, they've had more presence in the WHL than almost every other league, but they do scout the other leagues as well, and if they see a player they like more, it's as simple as that.

The Lucic "miss" has been discussed even more than Benn. I can't remember the exact details, but Lucic was a reach even in the 2nd round where he was picked, and if I remember correctly, the Canucks didn't have a pick in the area he went, so they would have had to make even more of a reach.

I could be fudging the details a bit, but that's a foggy recap of what I remember—basically Boston took a shot and reached with a 2nd round pick, and 29 other teams didn't.

It paid off.

It's difficult to predict how some of these guys will develop after they're drafted...

Now that you mention in those terms that would be very interesting thing to look into. Do you (or anyone) remember something like this happening with other high profile players in the NHL?

It would definitely be intriguing to see if the same sort of dynamics were in play with other prospects which ultimately became stars in specific hockey-mad markets. If anyone knows of any particular scenarios it would be interesting to get some feedback

Carole (if you're out there ), I think this would be a fairly interesting topic to explore (although there would be some research involved). Jus' sayin' is all
