The problem is they would have to love him at $837K or move a rostered guy.

At that point, you waive Regin to get the extra cap room.

Carter: he's a natural 2C option for the team.
- TommyHawk

The thing I find most curious is:

He failed at C in Philly and got traded,

He failed the under the pressure of beinga numbe rone centre on a bad Columbus

team, and now when he gets somehwere where they want his play to reflect body-work in balance with set up and scoring, the scoring deprived Kings get out from an easy to handle long term deal, have a big body depart and that wouldn't be the flag that there is a reason behindd the departure?

Not to mention the foot issue he has had for the last three or four years that has bordered on needing surgery some years or just being rested other years... as well as his contract to eternity which runs through 2022 at $5.275...

Ladd > Hartnell IMO. Would have considered Hartnell more 3-4 years ago. Ladd would be a great fit on paper. I'd like to think he'd check his ego at the door, going from a "C" on a crappy team to 5th on the 'Hawks forwards' pecking order.

Too bad a Kesler deal can't be done, figuring the 'Hawks and Nux would be unlikely trade partners. He'd be a great RHS 2C for Kane plus his Nux-like assbaggery would drop 10x. Cap hit is a $1M more than Bicks.

hawks are in the 800k in cap space so perhaps they drop Regin to minors to make up the difference.

Pirri, Morin, Bicks, and a pick for Kesler. Something along those lines perhaps?

This is odd considering ESPN Chicago just put that story out about Bicks and needing the break during the Olympics. They said he is rehabbing still from multiple injuries and is not up to speed yet. I get that, but then this story comes out about Bicks on the block? Stanley just rolled Bicks up in that fat new contract then wants to trade him in year 1?

Then the odd gets ridiculous with Ladd and Hartnell as trade targets? Ummmm we really another stud C. Not that I would not take Ladd, but trading Bicks for Ladd doesn't help the C issue and we still don't know what we have (if anything) in Regin. We cant really take on a big salary either especially if the return player has a multi year in place. 19/88 will be working on extensions next year. Don't get me wrong I get frustrated with 29 for he tends to vanish during the regular season. Gotta let him finish this year though. If he becomes a continual playoff war horse, then keep him and deal with the regular season blahs.

I don't see the Hawks dealing a roster player other then 29. The only other real trade piece that could fetch a good return would be TT. I want to see what TT has, but if the rumblings are true that Hawks brass want to pull the stops for a repeat Cup then TT brings back the needed #2 without a doubt. Don't know... could all be BS.

Regin it is then. Really hate to see him go. Wait. I think the Hawks would have to add PBJ. Damn. They lose that 4th rounder for nothing.

I said it was a HUGE goal....obviously it wasn't the same as scoring some meaningless goal in november.

my point was that you can't judge a guy based on one moment, no matter how huge that moment was.

look at bickell.....you guys re-signed him based off of one good playoff run, and now most people on here seem to think he's overpaid.

look at leino in buffalo. the guy had a great playoff with philly, going all the way to the finals, and got paid.....now it's one of the worst contracts in the league.

i'm not saying bolland is a bad player, i think he's a good player......but one goal that he scored last year should have no bearing on teh contract extension he signs for next year.

- sensarmy_11

If you think that one goal is the defining moment in Bolland's career...then you're an ignorant rube.

He may not be worth 5 million, but there's a much larger body of work to consider than just one goal in one game.

You can't put a healthy player on the IR list. Besides, if you were the LA GM would you trade Jeff Carter straight up for Martin St. Louis?
- paulr

There still has to be more to the story with St Louis. Why would he want a trade out of Tampa because Yzerman didn't select him for Team Canada? The two teams are mutually exclusive, I know the GM is the same guy but now that the Olympics are over all that matters is Tampa.

St Louis still is the man in Tampa, he's the leading scorer and leads forwards in ice time. Tampa is 2nd in their division and had some really good young forwards. He's played for the Lightning for 13 seasons and enjoyed a lot of success there, including winning a Stanley Cup.

I can't see St Louis wanting out just because Yzerman didn't originally pick him for team Canada, especially considering he didn't do much in Sochi. Something is missing.

His hit on Hamhuis that led to Bickell's goal....His shorty against Vancouver...his shorty against San Jose...you know what they have in common? They all happened in the playoffs

so what you're saying is that one game and one goal (albeit a HUGE goal) makes one player more valuable then the other.

i don't think bozak is anything special, but he's at least as good as bolland.

as for the "what has he won", that argument is pretty weak.....you win as a team, yes bolland scored the winner, but honestly, what does that prove? he was in the right place at the right time.

for the record, i think both players are fairly similar.......my point is that there is no way bolland deserves 1 mil + more than bozak..........esepcially when you factor in his injury history, as you've eluded to.

over their careers, bozak has played nearly 100 less games, and has only 10 less points.

yes, bolland has outscored him in the playoffs, but let's be realistic here......one played his career with the blackhawks, who've probably been the best team in teh NHL over the last 5 years or so......and the other has played his entire career with the leafs. nuff said.

- sensarmy_11

Bolly's value is what he does to the Sedin sisters and Jumbo Joe in the PO's. Stanley Cup winning goals are a throw-in compared to the big picture.

Just like Kane. Yeah he won it in 2010 vs a so-so goalie and from a bad angle. His real value is out there now, a way-better 3 zone player.

All that said, the 'Hawks IMO would consider Bozek.

Bolland is a very hard guy to categorize, and therefore to set a market for. The things he does win games for teams, but he's typically not the guy that gets that goal or the assist. He just separates a Wing from the puck and is on the ice when Seabrook nets the OT winner in game 7. Or he hammers Richards (right?) behind the net and knocks out one of the Kings best players for most of the series. He's the Swiss Army knife, but you're not going to win with him as one of the main actors. On the other hand he might be why you win if you've got the correct mix around him. Unique guy, imo, and I wish he were still a Hawk (I get why he's not but I wish he were).
