Nope - have to send $4.9MM of ROSTER money the other way to fit him in. - Return of the Roar
Regin it is then. Really hate to see him go. Wait. I think the Hawks would have to add PBJ. Damn. They lose that 4th rounder for nothing. |

I've always been a Carter fan, I was hoping we could have pried him away from Columbus. - DarthKane
I think he is one of the best fits out there for the Blackawks. They had interest in him before, and he's a natural 2C option for the team. A tad over $5 million for the next like six years is more than acceptable for a player capable of 35+ goals a year. He also wins face-offs (at 54.6% this year). Exactly the kind of player Kane needs. |

Carter's contract is fine and his game is excellent. He'd be the type of forward I'd make a big move on. Carter plays wing as well and he's played well with Toews on the international scene.
But LA will never give up Carter, they have trouble scoring as it is so why give up their best goal scorer. |

With Carter's cap hit being more than Bickell and Smith's, the Hawks would have to play one player short for the remainder of the season. - paulr
If they put Handzus on the LTIR (which is possible), it would give the team a little over $1.2 million in cap space I believe. They could easily recall a player like Mills, Nordstrom, etc. to slot in on the fourth line or acquire a gritty, cheap, experienced third-line winger. |

Eli,I hope Stan steamroles everybody with a significant trade for a no. 2 center, I just figured Bouchard had experience. so it is probably Zues for the ride home. - wonthecup10
Isn't he a shootout specialist, too? Wasn't he the one that pissed off khabi a few years back and does a lot of borderline moves in the shootoiut? We are one of the worst shootout teams, too, losing a lot of valuable points. Not saying he gets a chance up here, though |

Yep. Also, if a team is that concerned about having a shootout specialist, that team has to be in poor shape and isn't looking towards the playoffs in the first place. |

Thank God about that. But there will be plenty of shootouts left for the Hawks in the next 20+ games, I bet. Every point will be huge from now on. Not saying I want to see him |

I wouldn't count on it. Like Al said, if a deal is made it could be for another defenseman, or in my opinion another crack at a veteran to get a shot at the #2C spot that probably won't work out.

1. Why would the Kings trade Carter in the first place?
2. Why trade Carter to a team that they could face in the Playoffs?
3. Why trade Carter, who has an affordable cap hit for the foreseeable future for a goal scorer that will probably retire within the next couple of seasons? |

You can't put a healthy player on the IR list. Besides, if you were the LA GM would you trade Jeff Carter straight up for Martin St. Louis? |

Yeah Bozek has got some offensive skill, but Bolland is a differnet animal.
It seems like two guys that you do not compare.
Boland plays and gets hurt playing and is really good at picking his "shots" and surgically getting things done for his team.
Bozek is offense generator but an average one who gets paid like a number one on a team without a true number one.
I am more than curious about the St. Louis request for trade since he has fianl say lives in Connecticut in the off season...
Not sure Slats woud pony up players other than his Girardi Callaghan and Richards deals.
You think the Lightning want them?
and since I am going all over the place...yesterday I hears a hockey sports telecaster talks about the New York Rangers' "bad Richards deal."
We all were around at that time, remember how the meadia handle the Richards UFA spectacle...he and his agents had separate audiences with the team GMs who would sell Richards on coming to their team.
The announcers all saying how Richards was going to change the face of whichever one he signed with?
While all this was happening, I just kept thinking to myself: Is this a DIFFERENT Brad Richards? The second line centre who won the Cup with Tampa and was on the point on the PP? The one Tampa had to unload along with Boyle becaue Vinnie's salary and their demands could eat up the majority of the Tampa payroll? The guy who WAS a number one on a Dallas club that didn't have one to replace Modano, but who I NEVER EVER thought was going to garnish the interest and CASH that the media and heavy pocketed NHL clubs were gonna bring.
I am starting to think the alure of some of these players puts blinders on the NHL GM's.
You think I don't think RW Callahan wouldn't fit in Chicago, even if they have them (RWs) ?
Sure I think, he basically changes the landscape.
I am sure many NHL clubs think he makes them in the room and ice better and would be joyful to build around, IF the money works. That means understanding three years down, he is still the guy?
Or are you doing the Brad Richards dance then?
I think that this will be a fairly quiet trade deadline.
If Bickell was going somewhere he's be bringing a long term asset that fits the future Salary Cap.
and the REAL CAP room only comes in two years even then that salary have to be reasonable after the Toews and Kane re-ups.
Trades are not impulsive ventures for the most part and I am pretty sure lots of names are bandied about whether teams are actually interested in trading them, more as a gauge on the players market value, and a barometer of the GM and future tarde partner, and I belive the one RULE is that IF a GM hears a REALLY impact player is maybe getting dealts that they jump in and try their best to get them.
I have told this one before, but the truth embed in it still stand true:
It became clears that Boston GM and Joe Thorton were not going to agree to his next deal (this would have been in the years we now see the TWO RFA deals after rookie Cap), so he calls the Hawks GM Bob Pulford and assistant GM and tells him the slumping Bruins are going to trade former first overall Thornton and are taking offers.
The Hawks HANG UP the phone and tell former hawk OConnell, "...we will be back to you with a list of guys we are willing to trade...."
Tell me how you hang the phone up?
When guys like this come available you find a way decide quickly how much it means to winning, both long term and NOW.
and i bet when that Cap opens that will be when teams like the Hawks neeed to be in the middle of conversations.
Ladd is not that level of player and no disrespect to his point totals since playing in Atlanta & Winnipeg, lunch pail not withstanding.... |
