The 1.1 isn't prorated...It is a total of a $1.1. mill salary for the entire season.

Finishing fourth in the Olympics shouldn't be compared to kissing your sister, it's more like not getting a handshake:http://bit.ly/1gYNPfD

- Al

Right. I was putting up all annual numbers, nothing there can be prorated.

ny media catching wind of possible deal in place regarding Callahan being traded once nhl back in business:

Boomer Esiason (@7BOOMERESIASON)
Its coming and it will be huge. Surprising, shocking, inevitable, and all about business. $$$ #NHL #tradedeadline

not that boomer is exactly a hockey insider, but ny media has a reputation of breaking stories out of the most unexpected places, especially WFAN radio. not only is the msg and rangers brass located obviously in NYC, but so are league offices

wouldn't surprise me if this was 100% true

Counting the LTIR space, they had 1.1M available before the last trade, IIRC. Kostka makes 625K. Assuming Regin was sent down, that should leave room for an annual hit of 1.725M.

Edit: or up to 3.5M if Stan can again get someone to keep half the hit.

- NewToHockey

Right now the Hawks have $212K in cap space. Take away Kostka and the cap space goes to $837K. Then take away Regin and it goes to $1.2M. As Al points out, that is an annual salary of $1.2M. If Stan could get another team to take one half of the cap hit of the player he acquires - the max allowed - the Hawks could get a player with a salary of $2.4M without trading a real rostered player (Kostka and Regin not considered "rostered" for this purpose). So, who is out there who fits these parameters?

I don't know why this argument keeps coming up as well......I don't know why people are so adamant that a player who spent three years in the AHL is some savior at the 2C...he stinks....get over it people.

Well, if it were up to me I'd bring him back up and see what the Devils are asking for Rusty.

2nd line Rusty Pirri Kane

That should be good enough for another Cup. (sorry, too tired to enable the red font key).

FourFeathers reports that Boomer says an East Coast team. Could it be Montreal? They've been looking for grit and can sent back speed/scoring. Uncle Dale? He has cap space coming out his arse and allegedly the budget to spend to the cap. One of his youngsters if he can't get TT?

Man....would NY trade Callahan to Montreal. He's a fan favorite.....would they trade him to a conference foe?? Not unheard of but very rarely done.....

Boomer is actually an avid Rangers fan ( Season ticket holder forever) and quite locked in to Ranger sources. They've been playing chicken with Callahan ( and to a lesser extent Girardi) on contract extension/ trade talk for a month or two now. Wouldn't surprise me if they moved him. Callahan supposedly is asking for 7 years…..

He performed like one in a Hawk uniform. I think the first Russian the Hawks ever had is still their best...Igor Kravchuk. I think he was Russian.

Just spit-balling, and not a proposal on the Oiler blog; No need to get huffy. Oil needs the stud d-man and some have called for trading one of the young forwards to get one. That said, Callahan is the type of player the Oilers need, imo.

They will also have the space in July when they don't have to give up any assets.

Yakapov is having a Sophmore slump..he is worth much more than the rights to negotiate with Cally for 2 months.

Hawks riding Zues to another cup.

Pirri will move on an be a solid NHLer somewhere else. Blackhawk fans have become the new Red Sox fans, that is the pompous know it alls myopic and arrogant...so be it.

All we learned from Pirri playing is that he is not the guy they want. That does not mean = he sucks and can't play. I know many like the path of least resistance intellectually, but, as I said all along, if you want to say that he is not the optimal guy they want as a support piece, would not argue that. If you want to point to his play, given his opportunity, and pick apart his play, he performed as would be expected for any rookie given his circumstances. Most importantly, he did NOT hurt his team at all in any game. I know that flys in the face of the narrative, so be it.

So in conclusion, before everyone gets all excited slapping their own backs on their assessment, lets clear up the semantics of the discussion.

Brandon Pirri did NOT show through his play that he was over his head in the NHL and could not hold his own up and down the rink. Visual evidence and statistics stare in the face of this conclusion.

Brandon Pirri simply is not the player the Hawks want to give the ice time too. Again this is their choice/decision.

No matter how many times some may want to repeat to the contrary, it just will not make it so.

In the mean time, unless some real alternative to Handzuis emerges, I would expect the Hawks to get out hawked by Colorado, St. Louis or San Jose in the playoffs. I know the Hawks won with Handzuis club will lecture me (based on the assumption the Hawks are just that good and so much better then everyone else) and they can carry Zues, I say, good deal, lets go back and add Nick Boynton to the squad, since he won a cup with us as well.

As a Hawk fan, I hope I am proven wrong, but I may be the only person here who objectively looks at other teams and recognizes the overall trends in hockey. And it is obvious that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, and there are a handful of teams in the west that have adopted the Hawks style, while in some ways we have opted to move counter to it.

And the Olympics truly did suck this time around. Not just cuz US sucked, but the whole deal was so underwhelming. When TJ Oshie, who I love, his 4 shootout goals is the biggest story, then the costs of the injuries have far outweighed the other benefits.

Absolutely....but he is a UFA...can't see a non playoff team giving up any assets for him...but there will be plenty of interest at free agency from MacT and company.

Agreed.....keeping all four of their projected stars seems unlikely...especially when you have no depth and no D.

I think his daughter goes out with someone on the Islanders...

But the point is the Rangers aren't going to trade with a division team unless a non contender or they get overpaid. There will be suitors for Callahan so they won't have to reach.
