You already have several international amateur tournaments: World Juniors, Under 20s, Under 18s, etc. Not sure you want to mess with those.
From an Olympics standpoint, all other sports - winter and summer (assuming baseball is not part of the Olympics - I don't remember - I think they dumped softball) - the best players in the world are (presumably) represented. Hard to have a "less than best" hockey component.
Drop hockey - only 12 countries take part anyways (don't know how many more send athletes in other sports) - do a hockey World Cup instead in the off-season. |

Yes - like they used to be - when the Red Army hockey team, the East German swimmers, etc. represented their countries as amateurs.
Everyone has always made money off of the Olympics - including the athletes - to pretend that some how this is all Chariots of Fire is to think that Avery Brundage was a good guy. |

Stanley Cup, Calder Cup, Gargaran Kup, Kanada-Malja...
There's plenty of professional tournaments too, stop messing with those.
World cup is just as bad IMO. Star players risking injury playing for someone other than the team who pays their checks. |

Wasn't the World Cup that paid the players and NHL ? |

I heard this idea floated on the Score (Chicago radio) yesterday - move Hockey to the Summer Olympics.

Just a thought to possibly generate cap space. Over the next few games I would like to see Leddy in Oduya's normal spot to see if he can handle the extra minutes and responsibiity. If so, Oduya could become bait. I prefer to see if Roszival could fetch anything with an over $2 mil cap hit for a #6/7 dman role.
Very hesitent to do anything to disrupt the dcore now though. If a MacDOnald form the Isles could come in to be paired with Leddy, or maybe Depres from the Pens, this would make Roszival more expendable to me.
Thoughts? |

If other countries want to call professional athletes amateurs, I don't care. If they want to send then to the "Ogimpics", fine let them. the US should state that only amateurs are involved, since pro's have other competition to "earn" titles. |

No, but we can include him as part of a package. A cash strapped team may find Rozsival enticing next season, he makes $1.75 million but his cap hit is $2.2 million. I doubt Rozy is traded this season, but maybe in the summer. |

Oh well, in that case, the Isles should only be partially pissed that the NHL participates in Olympic nonsense. - Ogilthorpe2
Well he's still out for the regular season, and for the Isles that means the rest of the season. So I think they'll still be just as upset. |

Agreed.
Besides, Soviet Russia and East Germany no longer exist, so they have less need to push their political agendas through "Sportsmanship and Goodwill".
Even if they did still exist...be better than that. Be better than Soviet Russia, be better than East Germany. We should be better than that. Isn't that what made the 1980 Gold so special?

Yep, universal disarmament always works... And the others then say "US can state what it wants - we're sending our best." That'll work out well. |

Send Morin to the Pens for Depres (young defense partner for Leddy)
Then offer Rozy with Pirri for a #2 center in the mold of B. Schenn |

Either way, Garth Snow comes out looking like a fool. First whining when Okposo wasn't picked, then crying when his guy that does get picked gets hurt. |
