I was playing around on capgeek.com looking at our cap situation next season. It will be close but Stan should be able to come in under the cap with jettisoning any major parts.

But one contract stands out as very tradable...Rozsival. In the 2nd year of his deal he moves from a NMC to a modified NTC (not sure of the conditions). Plus, while his cap hit is $2.2 million his actual salary is only $1.75 million. That may not seem like a lot but almost $500K could go a long way for some of the more cash strapped teams. Maybe Rozy gets dealt this summer along with one of the B grade prospects has an enticement.

I like Rozsival and everything he's done for the team, but $2.2 million is a lot for a part time defenseman.

I would as soon keep him. Really can't see him and a B prospect fetching more than a 4th. Personally think he has more value to the Hawks than a 4th round draft choice. Even at best you get someone's garbage. No more clearance rack shopping.

Funny thing is, if I don't point that poop out, sure as Pirri sucks, the flight attendant will call the cockpit and say "some goofball wants to know if that's Niagra Falls that we just flew over"

Every damn time. So you see it's really a preemptive strike on our part when we do those P/A's.

Getting rid of Rozsival would be more about clearing cap space than getting a specific return.

I know from what Eli's said none of the D-men in Rockford are NHL ready now, but maybe that changes by training camp (I'm thinking Dahlbeck).

Is Rozy a "part time" D-man because he can't handle being full time anymore, or is it just because they were carrying 8 D-men and tying to keep everyone involved?

I knew what you were going for DK. I think having him around as the 7th D-man would be good insurance to have around if one of the young D-man make the leap. I think he really helped Leddy a lot last year.

I love when you guys give us the state/country route to the destination

I frankly don't give a poop, but I can see how infrequent travelers can getting annoying about their route from lga to ord passing through upstate ny through canada down through michigan on to lake michigan crossing from indiana into chicago. As long as i get there, you can drop your septic tank over kentucky for all i care

IMO. More about wear and tear. Watching him skate in the Olympics, he was moving well to me.

I think it's just preventative measures, but either way he's still not been a full time guy.

If Roszival can play around 55-60 games then he may be worth keeping. But as another season goes by the game will continue to take a toll on Rozy. Maybe Stan keep him and rotates a you fester into the mix next year. His contract just stood out and one that could be traded if cap space was needed. Better Rozsival than Oduya or Leddy.

Tonight we departed the Los Angeles basin over Palm Springs, crossing into Arizona near Lake Havasu, continuing just north of Phoenix, then over Albuquerque New Mexico and finally Amarillo Texas where we begin our initial descent on a direct course for Oklahoma City.

I would have been pulling the cord at the Palm Springs stop. There is some family in and around the area I haven't seen in a while. Plus its freaking warm.

Hockeybuzz main page asks if NHL players should continue participation in the Olympics.

The Olympic hockey games as presently constituted is a farce and not too inaccurately a sham. Players cannot possibly be prepared to play cohesively. The objective is to bring out the best in the world as well as the players performance is their absolute best. Right!

Besides damaging good fight for playoff spots, the Olympic interlude pits teamattes against each other. Don't check Kaner too hard, JT, lest he misses some NHL time and your team starts to worry they miss the playoffs.

So what do you value more, good NHL action or a properly run Olympic effort?

If the Olympics, it should be in the summer. The following NHL season should be reduced by one month. Give players a breather between Olympics and NHL training camp.

The real issue - as in each major American sport-- is the duration of the regular season and playoffs. It is a marathon. But to reduce the amount of games is problematic. Teams need revenue from a longer schedule since salaries are so exorbitant. Someone may actually show this is not 100% the case, but the premise is basicly correct (I think so far as I know about the business structure of NHL).

Perhaps this conflict is like the expression "you can't have your pie and eat it too."

Btw the basketball is played in summertime.

You bring up good points but I certainly enjoy and enjoyed the Olympic hockey and Canada sure looked cohesive to me. In fact I would argue that Canada not pnly played cohesively but I have never seem any team execute a game plan as well as Canada did.

One thing that irritated me was Kane making the comment that Kessel was probably the best player he ever played with. Did he not factor in the team he had to go back to before he made that idiotic statement?

Might be my bad but I thought Kane gave praise to Kesler.

The USA and Czech teams were not cohesive teams, with five man units not working well together. Throughout the games often most line combinations struggled to put forth offensive pressure, even Canada had this experience.

While I do enjoy Olympic hockey, it has lost some of its luster or appeal that was so radiant in the 1980 - 2000 year period -of -time. Back then there was the mystery of how good are these foreign players. Remember the KLM line, or the Rendevous Series when Gretzky and Lemieux teamed up?

One situation which may occur actually did transpire in this Olympic Games. To witness Kane receives a stretch pass but D Keith cuts him off, pokes the puck away and defused a potentially good scoring opportunity. A nasty slash or other injury on that play easily could have occurred. One Blackhawk injures another. Ouch!
