Yep, the guy that can't seem to find a top job in the NHL. He'd do much better than a coach who has won more games than all but a handful of coaches in the history of the game and who could very well be second by the time he's done.

But credit goes to Q....argh on this one - he did present an alternative.

Agreed, I think depth is often to focused on. I don't even think Leddy and Rosival really matter that much either. Can they help or hurt the team, sure, but what it comes down to is your top 6 and top 4 outscoring the other team's top 6 and top 4 (barring crazy goalie series).
- rollpards19

Oh, I think depth is important Rollie. I think the ability to roll 4 lines and 3 d-pairs played a huge part in both Cup runs. What I was alluding to is when the lights shine the brightest, the big guns need to find a way. Teams are going to do everything they can to shut the top lines down. The top lines need to overcome that.

Leddy and Rozy matter from this point of view. It keeps the top 4 minutes manageable leaving them fresher for end of game situations. Or if a series goes 7 games. They can play the big minutes if they have to but, imo, their effectiveness begins to diminish.

Speaking of Eagles...Lots of Bald Eagles gathering around the Fox River lately. Pretty cool, my whole life they were like these mystical creatures that didn't exist anywhere but Alaska, and suddenly they're everywhere. Saw at least a dozen of them in one tree last week. Very cool.

They are fantastic, majestic creatures. My family has a house on a lake in Wisconsin and it has been about 10 years since eagles returned to the area. Watching them float for miles is awesome, as is watching them suddenly dive to the surface and come up with a fish.

Well, Q must have, because he was so insecure about his being there that he scapegoated him for the poopty PP and brought in another one of his buddies, who had somehow manageged to keep the job without performing.

So ... uhm ... just how great did Q do without a stacked team from 2010-11 thru 2011-12? Blame lack of depth when he poops the bed, call him a genius when he wins with the deepest team in the league. Laugh all ya want, Chuckles.

Hawks, too. It was rare to see one. Now you will see 3-4 hovering around fields waiting for food to appear. Have watched swoop down and ruin a few squirrel's day.

This team is going to go as far as the big 4 up front and the 6 guys on the back end take them, There are no moves to make unless a player on the NHL roster is sent packing. I highly doubt it happens. Regin and Handzus are your 2C. Maybe they might shuffle it around and play Shaw or Kruger there and slide Slowzus and Useless down. Who know, maybe they throw Pirri back out there but really don't see it at this point.

Nordstom and Morin might be possibilities to be brought up.

What the real question here is how much are they banking on some of their prospects being ready for another run at the Cup next season. Going into next season they have roughly 12-13 million to sign 8 players. They will need some of these prospects to take the next step or re-shuffle the deck.

IMO, of course.

- Elbows15

This, of course - except:

Add the man in the mask to your 4 and 6.
Bickell coming back would be a big help - gives you two good bottom lines (I'm not even hoping for him to be top-6)

Regin/Handzus/Pirri/new cap fit guy - probably each gives you the same results. Team has 4 top-6 skaters - that will have to do.

I'm just not sure who will be ready next year: the prospect depth is scary shallow.

Good to hear Ogie. I spent many summers working in Northern Wisconsin, and the eagle population was doing much better than it had done previously around there. Definitely much more common the further north you get. Fishing in Saskatchewan this summer allowed me to see a lot of those beautiful animals. Good to hear that those birds are spreading their wings and populating southern areas.

Certainly would do good to have them around to start getting rid of invasive fish populations that I'd assume are still prevalent.

I believe several, including TG and Elbows, have touched on this previously, but the Hawks might be post-Top 6/Bottom 6. They want four balanced lines that force the other coach into serious match-up problems. I believe they like lines 1, 3, and 4; and the 2C, while traditionally important is just another forward slot that needs to be filled. Of course, they'd love a great center there, but I think all they feel they need is someone that fills the spot without wrecking the scheme.

I have NEVER blamed Q for not contending with. 2-line teams, the same way I have never bought into his so called genius in winning the cup with great defenses and four solid lines. I have only asked the question about how great he did those years when everyone keeps pointing to the cups in order to support their contention that he is a genius. I think that that is both fair and consistent.

It would be in doubt whether Eddie is coherent enough to understand the question.
- Elbows15

Either way, Eddie's mask was certainly one of my favourite goaltender buckets EVER. Whether its a specific homage to him or not, it's awesome to see Raanta rocking that helmet, even if he'll (hopefully) only wear it during warmups.

i'm not surprised at all. As a matter of fact, that's exactly what I figured was going to happen when they got him. Quenneville is nothing if not predictable. I don't care what anybody says, he is the most overrated coach in recent memory. he is a system and nothing more. his personnel decisions suck, is constant line juggling sucks, his matchup chasing sucks, and his mentoring of young players sucks.

granted, his system is a big reason why the Hawks do as well as they do. but that's about all the credit I will give him.

- Q...argh

After a history that includes Alpo, Hartsburg, Yawney, Savard - most of whom couldn't even get into the play-offs, let alone win a Cup - we're still female doging about Quennville?

He took a team on which - before last year - about half the players (INCLUDING the goalie) had not won a play-off series, and in a compressed season, guided them to a championship.

And has them within a game or two of the top this season, after losing several players who have not been adequately replaced.

Well, I'll have to take your word on that one, but I find it very hard to believe. In my way of thinking, the time to blame the coach a bit (or a lot) is when the team doesn't win. The time to praise the coach is when the team does win. You seem to think the opposite.
