How many Hawks sit out the 1st game back? I am going with 2. Toews and Keith. Sharp barely saw any ice time. Kane seems to run on an alternative fuel system. Guy never seems tired. Maybe Hammer instead of Keith. We all know Timex doesn't warrant time off.

At the most only Handzus.

My way of thinking on this stuff is like that of my 93 yr old Mom trying to change a DVD..

I see what u mean even though it doesn't sound like it ...what I know for sure is Bowman is in a tighter spot than last yr at this time unless he gets very creative.

My 75 year old dad just got a tablet - I know exactly what you mean!

Yep, Stan is in a tighter spot right now, but he did already add Versteeg. Also, like I posted above he can get a guy for $2.2M or so if he does two things - dumps Regin (which will chagrin Elbows....) and get the other team to keep half the salary. Otherwise an established roster guy has to go, and I personally think that is unlikely.

Could be but they lost an insurance policy they carried the entire season right before crunch time for 0...for what an extra forward? Who would sit?
- Al

It could be three things, imo. One is that they no longer think as highly of him and decided to let him go. Two is that they planned for one of the kids to step up (Pirri or Morin), but they didn't and now they can't afford the insurance. A combination of the two is quite likely, I think. And the third is that they need the cap space for a trade, which is necessary because of number two (not that number two, Elbows ).

You mentioned a trade earlier and in your article. Is that your educated opinion or have you heard the rumblings that something is up? Just curious - a trade is a very logical assumption, I believe.

Any capgeeks here ?

So .. Since TBL claimed Kotska , the Hawks have $837,000 in cap space right ?

Does that mean the Hawks can take on a player that has an Annual salary of $1,674,000 because the Hawks would only be paying for the 2nd half of the season ?

Help ! Im trying to understand . If this is not the case why would Stan just waive a useable D man for no reason ?

I don't think this move was done for no reason, something will follow for sure. Maybe a trade or maybe a signing. Did Stan need to shed a contract to sign Johns?

Read back over the last two pages... Hawks have $837K right now, $1.2M if they dump Regin. Those number double it the other team keeps half the salary. So, up to $2.4M is possible. Who fits those parameters and is a UFA from a team that isn't up to the cap (and can afford to retain salary)?

Tab Bamford tweeted an article about an hour ago that made some sense....Johns,Hayes and Holl will all be finishing their college seasons soon, and if the Hawks want them in RockCity they need to clear some space(players) I believe he wrote the Hawks had 49 guys with Thor but now have 48...It seems to make sense....maybe it is just the first step in acquiring more roster spots and cap space....dunno

Subban didn't play at all, I don't think, but is he the first Black to win a gold medal?

I guess you don't watch track and field at the summer Olympics.

... ET. The #NHL trade market will officially open again at that point until the ease deadline on March 5th! Many teams are expected to be busy including the #Flames who have removed Lee Stempniak from their roster on their website....

Do anything for ya ?

Not really. IF the Hawks are to make a move, which I doubt as far as trades go, IMO it would be for a center.

Not the way it works when you exceed the Cap because of LTIR. The salary would have to be the yearly salary. There are no prorate vales for the Hawks becuase Vodka Tits in on LTIR. As I understand it.

Martin would certainly fit, but he would have fit when they traded for Regin and the PBJ sammich. Either the Isles wanted too much or weren't going to trade him - low cap hit for several more years.

Also, wouldn't the Hawks want someone who can play 2C at least passably? Third and fourth lines seem solid if Bickell returns to form. Maybe a 3C? I think they need a center if they add someone.

We knew he was talking about the Winter games. In the Summer game it is more of a feat if a white athlete wins a medal.

Go back a few pages for some stuff on that. There is never pro-ration for cap purposes. Teams can accumulate space to take a bigger contract later in the season, but the team always has to fit the annual number on the contract into their cap space.

Possibly. Though I would think there are several stumblebums floating around between Rockford and Toledo who could let go when the time for that occurs.

Whatever. I don't care. All it means to me is there isn't anyone one of real value to add unless a player on the NHL roster is moved. Which I really don't see happening.

I have seen enough of the clearance rack pick ups to know except for an extremely rare occasion, Handzus, is going to contribute.

Even though if we have learned nothing else since the Bowmans have taken over it really isn't something they primarily look for. If its part of the package, great. It isn't their main focus.
