Kostka on waivers per Renaud Lavoie
- MartiniMan

It would only clear 625K cap space. That would mean Stan could take on a salary around 1.7M if the new guy was also sent down.

Who cares. He needs to be gone. Addition by subtraction. Maybe Morin get his final shot. Or Nordstrom.

Pirri hasn't proven he belongs on the team let alone on the second line. Next week the Hawks are making the strectch run to the playoffs and barring injuring Pirri will not be part of it.

OK. Who hijacked Saint's account?
- Elbows15

I've said much the same before: they are down 5 players from last year - including mostly ineffective Handzus and Bickell - but have only found one effective replacement - Smith. This year's Bickell and Handzus have been ineffective replacement for last year's versions.

Maybe - with three weeks off - Bickell comes back and solidifies the third line with Saad/Versteeg and Shaw. Maybe Saad/Versteeg move to 2W, maybe Handzus gets 2C magic again in the play-offs.

That's a lot of maybes - but there were a lot if maybes last year, too, so...maybe...

Put Pirri back at 2C, use Zus sparingly, put Versteeg and Saad back into their proper lines and positions, and keep that Isles garbage off our ice. HTF can this be rocket science???

I have felt all along this was a transition year. A year for some of their "prospects" to gain professional experience. Team just do not repeat in the salary cap era. Hell, even before then only one team could do it in the last 30 years.

The Kostka move could be for flexibility on a future trade or it could be as simple as being able to carry an extra forward. Morin has an 8 game scoring streak and from what I've read he has been playing well. Nordy could also be a possibility.

And both would be a better option on the third line than Kostka playing out of position. Makes sense to waive him, whatever the reason might be.

I'd prefer to not see him get claimed, though

I would be surprised if he does.....but teams could be desperate. He's played in less than ten games but as the saying goes....one mans trash is another mans treasure.

I've felt that too - and you're right - you wind up losing too much depth to replace over a summer.

All that said - they're right there at the top in points won, so it's hard to know what to make of all of it.

Good points....so if you scratch Chicago off the list, who is your favorite to win the cup? I gotta go with St.Louis...and they don't need Miller to do it either.

Not sure we've scratched Chicago off the list - just recognizing how hard it's going to be, and why.

It could be that the organization just might think Kostka wasn't the fit they were hoping for?

It's rather odd that Bowman would waive defensive depth he was trying to hold onto since the start of the season now as opposed to a month ago. Perhaps Kostka would not bring much back in return (that seems pretty obvious) and maybe it was time to find out if they could get away with Kostka clearing waivers?

At worst, if Kostka is claimed, Dahlbeck would become the organization's #8 defenseman in Rockford, and in my opinion he's probably just as good or better than Kostka now.

Anyone BUT the Blues. (frank) them. Seriously, hard to not be impressed with the way the Pens have played through all the injuries. Though Disco Dan is their coach.

Way off topic...but I'm having a battle with Lightning fan over who is more Hall of Fame worthy, Chris Pronger or Sergei Gonchar? Since I'm an Oilers fan, I really have no knowledge of rating Defense .

Pronger all day

I still don't see the Blues winning the Cup, I'd take Anaheim or even LA before them.

Agreed.

If I'm not mistaken, if claimed part of his salary goes against the Hawks salary cap.

The Hawks are still my pick to win the West but if it's not them, I like San Jose.
