Holy F*ck, that was probably one of the best 1-0 games I've seen in a long, long time. Albeit, if it wasn't for Quick, it could have easily been 5-0. Was anybody else as blown away as I with respect to Canada's defense? Simply superb, pretty much flawless hockey. Congrats and onto the Gold |

I mentioned it yesterday, Can and Swe have the best defense in the whole tournament, so it's no surprise that they are playing for the gold.
The best way to shut down the US is to play in their end, especially when Kessel is on the ice, he's not going to go deep into his own end and lead the break out, it's like playing against 4 players, and to do it on the bigger ice is even more impressive. I'm sure the Finnish are watching the tape on todays game and will attempt the same thing tomorrow. Oh! and it was fun watching the shots of Burke |

Great game. Tense as hell. I think I saw it a bit closer than you did though. Quick played great but so did Price. If either had been mediocre it would have been several in the back of their net. Chances 20-14 for Canada.
It's funny, my pre-tournament prediction was Sweden for the Gold, Canada to medal, USA with no medal. It's still a possibility though at this point would be a shocker to come true. |

Price of of flight and hotel (including having to bring own toilet paper supply) in Sochi - 15,000 Euros
Price of ticket(s) to men's semi final game - 3,000 Euros, two dozen babooshkas, and a Pouting Putin t-shirt
Watching Burke and Co slink away in stunned silence after the final buzzer went - PRICELESS!
Yes, definitely agree with you - the old adage of 'defense wins championships' was right on as usual. And that was on full display in its magnificent glory from puck drop to the final whistle. Just a phenomenal all around performance (and yes, Alex, I agree that Price certainly made some key saves as well, but Quick seemed to be the much busier of the two, having to stop quality chance after quality chance.
Nice pre-tournament prognostication, by the way. My pick was a Canada/USA gold medal game (ya, I know, talk about going out on a limb (and USA being possibly replaced with Russia). Alas, it almost felt like a gold medal game today. If the actual Final is as exciting as today's game, it will be a game for the ages |

It really shows the difference between the Eastern and Western conferences in the NHL. Canada's Defense outside of the 1 game played by PK are all western defensemen. |

Interesting observation. It seems most hockey pundits feel that there has been quite a disparity in West vs East results, with the West having a fairly significant advantage the last five or so years.
You would think it would be the exact opposite, however, given the Eastern Conference has such a light travel schedule compared to the West, which is of course a huge advantage in terms of mitigating fatigue, injuries etc. |

With the amount of trades in the NHL over the last few years ,this could run Ek out of business. If he wants to get in on the action he should have insider info on our fantasy league.

You don't have anyone worth a first, especially not Campbell. I'll trade prospects for brown or Campbell. |

That would definitely put the Canucks in a step backward position, depending on the return? |

Yup - he's a great player; a team like St. Louis could really use him to make a playoff push. But that means giving up some good assets. |
