That's the price of acquiring top-end talent like Luke Schenn and Steve Downie...you must take Nicklas "Salary Dump" Grossmann.

The only way that weber gets traded IMO is if he demands it. I hope it happens, but highly unlikely.

They've yet to make condoms primarily out of titanium, the only possible chance of containing his seed.

The reason why Nashville would trade Weber isn't financial. If they couldn't afford his deal, they wouldn't have matched it. The reason why they would trade him would be for hockey reasons. To try and bolster the team, especially the forward ranks. They have Josi, Jones, DelZotto, and Ellis. They need to have more balance.
- MJL

If they could get something like our 1st this year, Voracek, and the Schenns for Weber, and they pick up a couple good young forwards in the 1st round, they would be a very good, young, balanced team.

Didn't his agent say he didn't want to go through a rebuild in the aftermath of the offer sheet signing?

Edit: Yes he did:
"I don't think you sign an offer sheet unless you're pointing in that one direction ...," Bousquet said. "It's really up to [Nashville]. He'd like to play with the Philadelphia Flyers because I think we all feel that he's just another piece in the puzzle to take them to the next level and he doesn't want to go through a rebuilding process again."

True, but they still wouldn't have Shea Weber.
Seth Jones may (or may not) turn out to be an elite defenseman although he's very promising. But Shea Weber is a proven all-world defenseman who still has a great amount of good years in his future (barring the unforseen), and is probably the closest thing to Pronger that there is...although he's not NEARLy as cocky.

Sure, but they need to look at what is going to make them a good team when their key young players are ready to really contribute. Weber will be in his 30s by then and less valuable in trade. If they sell high now, they can really sure up their team for future years.

I was about to say that seems a bit one sided, then i noticed the 2014 2nd. A well rounded deal for both sides, and we'd be unstoppable with that lineup. If we pull the trigger now we are pretty much guaranteed the cup this year, although nay-sayers would say Akeson needs another year to develop before he turns into a better version of Crosby.

Defenseman like Weber can play at a high level into their late 30s. Look at a guy like Chara. Even Timonen is still a good player at 40.

I dont understand why people feel the team needs to win while their top player is in their 'prime.' Its not like these guys die at age 30. I still see forwards producing at a nice clip after the age of 30 and defenseman after the age of 35.

Giroux may not be a perennial top 10 scorer after 30 years old, but I still see him putting up around 70 points or so.

Hopefully Giroux's career will be Datysukian.

If Weber was traded to the Flyers this off season, and he retires when he's 38 at the end of the 22/23 Season. The Flyers would have to pay a recapture penalty of $2,761,905 for Seasons 2023-24 through 2025-26, not $6.857M
- MJL

I was talking about the possible penalty on the Flyers if Nashville hadn't matched, and the penalty Nashville may face. I don't think they will trade Weber anywhere. If they want help up front they could trade Josi or Jones and get good forwards back.

I tried to form reasonable proposals which will help both teams. I hate when people offer proposals for guys like OEL or Pietrangelo. Those guys won't be traded unless they are blown away. Like if the Flyers offered Giroux and Couturier.

I think it would take more for Lindholm, but I do like him a lot.

Edit: I should have added something to the Lindholm proposal.

He does a lot to piss me off. Even when he writes an article, I agree with, I still hate him. I guess its a bit unfair, but he's done it to himself.

I was going to include Maata in a deal like Simmonds + Read for Maata + Sutter. Most people already disagreed with me on that one so I left it out. I think it would be reasonable, but I doubt the Pens and Flyers make a deal like that together.

i always said before this year i wanted a niskanen for read swap.

but yeah. his utter refusal to entertain the notion of morin being involved in a deal with weber, combined by what he honestly thinks he could be had for should he be available, like jesus christ. i dont know if he is genuinely that out of touch or is just trying to be controversial.

if you guys can get weber, and morin is a potential snag in the deal, someone needs to be fired
