Can anyone explain to me why "86" means, "Get rid of"??? Im just really curious, ive always known what it meant, just never udnerstood how "86" became the cool way to say, "get rid of" something. |

"Another plausible explanation for the saying is brought you by the U.S. Navy’s Allowance Type (AT) coding system that was used to identify and classify the status of inventory. The code AT-6 was assigned to inventory that was designated for disposal, specifically after World War II as the Navy decommissioned many of its warships and went through the process of cleaning out its storerooms where they kept spare parts. During this process, any parts that were labeled AT-6 were considered trash and thrown out. It is easy to see phonetically how this could result in the term “86” and the idea of throwing something away to become synonymous." |

Don't be arrogant towards the Blues...the last time I checked the Hawks haven't beaten them this season, and the Blues are tied in points with 3 games in hand.
This may shock you....but the Hawks aren't the best team in the NHL by any stretch. - SteveRain

The Olympics are great for the NHL. It grabs the casual fan's attention. Think half of America knew who TJ oshie was? Or who Jonathan Quick or Phil Kessel were prior to the games? Doubtful.
It's a huge marketing piece for the league and show cases the best players and opens doors for guys who are in less popular markets.
When Handzus went down vs the USA, I chuckled....sadly, he got back up..... |

Come on.....they aren't a push over. At least respect them and keep an eye on them.....They have had the Hawks number all year long, and David Backes will run a train on Keith and Leddy come playoff time.
The arrogance of how great the Hawks are is getting VERY OLD on here. Are they good? Of course....Are they head and shoulders above the rest of the western conference? Not a chance in hell..... |

I don't give a flying (frank) about attracting casual fans....not at the expense of the season currently in progress. The 3 week break is inexcusable. |

I find that the local mom & pop coffee huts to be far cheaper than the big boys, starbucks, dutch bros and the like.. Two shots of espresso sets me back at most a buck fifty. |

Sweet, makes sense. I always wondered, I should have figured it came from some kind of military thing. Seems like a lot of sayings come from the military...or not |

well, then you should pulling for a major injury to a star so that the NHLPA can't play the "nobody gets hurt" argument when they negotiate with the NHL.
