Watching Backes park his large frame in the front of the net, I start to ponder who on the Hawks will move him out of the way this spring IF they meet in the central divisional finals. Keith? Leddy? NO. It's Seabrook or bust.

I'm a lighting a candle that STL doesn't make a move for a goalie by March 5th.

I would like to see a naturally aggressive player as our net front presence. I would like to see Johns signed, moved from pp point to front of net in Rockford.,

No merit to Cole or Jagr as the Hawks do not need wingers. If the Hawks look to splash, they'll splash with David Legwand.
- Bjm84

Legwand availability could be tied to development of their prospects more so in Milwaukee AHL than elsewhere. Austin Watson Forsberg are highly rated, but only Forsberg has shown good scoring in AHL it appears. But moreover, can someone take Legwand responsibilities/job in Nashville? An opportunity to move an older player for a prospect or draft choice, even a swap,of draft picks? Maybe.

Btw Carter Hutton has worked out well so far for Pred's. He was a good investment but then they added Dubynk. Hutton wasn't bad.

The only thing they should protest is the stink in' shootout format. Like the NHL playoffs, let the team win without any gimmick. Real hockey please. On the Olympic world stage that is a farce. Other Olympic sports do not have such a gimmick. Then again, if you heard 60 minutes last night you realize there are worse "problems" in Russia.

Those protestors are "Puttin" on a show but is it just when the camera crew shows up?

Detroit should not have challenged the Hawks like they did in round 2 last year. He knows system hockey. And he knows how to adjust the system to get the most out of the talent he has.

He knows how to get the most out of the rules.

How to work the refs.

You might not like it, but he wins.

- John Jaeckel

Except when he needed to win 33% of his games last season, he was an 0'fer.

Impossible.....

Any big money trade can't happen now....Cole makes $8 mill per !!!!

Actually as of today the Hawks can't afford Jagr either.

That seems MUCH more logical. I almost spit up some redbull when i read Al saying he makes $8 per. Still dont think theres any way the Hawks can aquire him but $4.5 mil sounds like what Cole WOULD be making (not SHOULD be making).

None Steve, Q has a"no touching" rule! hate him or not,fan loyalty aside, David Backes is exactly the type of center the Hawks could use. Hell, I would love to see them pry Kesler out of Vancouver(looks good with Kane so far),instead of some of the other talked about players, unless of course your talking about a guy like ROR.

The entire spectacle that is the Olympics is a farce, not just the shootout format. No Olympics, no bad shootout format...problem solved.

Just curious Ogi, would you be as opposed to the Olympics if NHL'ers werent involved? Is it just the whole judging a nations worth based on sporting events that gets you going?

It's the not so cleverly disguised corporate money grab cloaked in contrived goodwill and phony sportsmanship that irritates me. The Olympics is more about the IOC, NBC, Coca-Cola, and Mc Donalds making big coin than anything else.

Commentators are always talking about the incredible sacrifices (basically giving up any semblance of a normal childhood) made buy some 18 year old figure skater for a chance to get to the Olympics. Instead of seeing that as noble, I see it as incredibly sad, especially when they inevitably fall on their ass and realize they wasted what should have been the best years of their lives in the nonsensical pursuit of sport that nobody cares about for the 3 years and 50 weeks between games.

Also, not to go all powerenforcer on you but, any event that has so many "sports" that are determined by the subjectivity of judges with no clear cut winner/loser is also ripe for corruption.

Only realistic possibilities.

Eller and Nielson will be expensive. Ruutu and Hudler are wingers. Gordon has a pretty big contract for a bottom-six player. Tyler Ennis? Way too small and will likely be overvalued by Buffalo.

Dude named Gretzky was pretty good too.
Most unselfish player i've seen AND the greatest goal scorer EVER.

- philco28

Not to mention he didn't have the physical gifts of the other guys. He was slow, weak, and not tall. He didn't have that real long reach Mario had. How many goals did he score by having the longer reach and getting to pucks to knock it in? A lot. Physical tools are a Huge advantage

Expensive? Stanley Cups are expensive.

Didn't realize Ruutu/Hudler have both been playing wing exclusively lately...don't see them much.

No such thing as too small.
