Agreed. But it was still boring. Not a game that I would call a convincing argument for sending the NHL to the Olympics. - Ogilthorpe2
I thought a good game to watch from the standpoint it was fast...That's most important to me.
It wasn't as exciting as it could have been because at no time did I think the US would win after the 10 min mark of the opening frame.
Bottom line is it was a very well played game but that isn't typical Olympic hockey.
This game was loaded with NHL players on both sides and there were many future HOF players involved.

Isn't curling a variant? - StLBravesFan
I thought I was setting the recorder for hockey but saw the overtime CHINA vs Sweden Bronze medal curling match and I never realized the rock had a red light on it that blinked foul if you don't let go quick enough....
It went to overtime and they were on ice...

Suter looked like a slow old man. I dont ever remember seeing him play that slow before. McD and Carlson were pretty amazing all tournament.
- BlazinMike Heres a crazy trade!!! Seabrook for Carlson
Seabrook's much better all around.
Carlson had that great break up and he activated real well, but he isn't some solid defender yet.
Oh in red = sarcasm |

I just checked the official site; the US had home ice.
Olczyk is making an idiot out of Emrick, just like he turned Foley into his babbling little b itch. |

Does anyone else think it'd be kind of weird to see him as a coach again? |

Considering his dismal record, I'd think it'd be weird if anyone actually hired him. Still, one can dream! |

I'd like to see JR take Dumbczyk's place. He'd keep Foley to play by play, like Dale did. |

>USA got schooled at the Center position and D position, too
>Kane needed a Center who understood how he plays "behind the puck" -- Kesler is not that guy -- but Pavelski would have been
>USA D passed up many opportunities to feed Kane with speed, too
>End result, USA spent the whole game chasing
>Some questionable team selections and coaching came home to roost against top competition
>Once he settled down, Duncan Keith became an outlet passing machine for Team Canada breakouts

I would not be surprised one bit if Q should ever leave or get fired that Edzo would be a candidate for the job. |

Everything had to fall together for the US to win...Going in I thought if Russia was good they wouldn't medal....Now at least they have a chance.
Schedule turns out to help Canada because it enforced a defense first mentality.
5 on 5 vs two better teams the US couldn't score.
Keith is an elite player and no one on their roster can turn a play as fast or as well and that includes to Doughty.
Kane was the best for the US but going 0-4 on the PP sealed the deal when you get outplayed and out chanced 5 0n 5.

Listen.... the Amercans got 31 shots on goal. They played well enough t wi and just idnt. Their PowerPlay did them in. No biggie. A magnifient tip in goal beat them . After the Canadians went up 1-0 they stacked 4 at the blue line. Oh well. One more game for all the Hawks still playing to pray for no injuries |

Unless some very weak goaltending occurred, matchups in the middle of the ice were very unfavourable to the USA and pretty much guaranteed they wouldn't win. Backes and Stastny wouldn't even get a tryout with Team Canada and Pavelski might be the 13rd forward. I still like Kesler, but he isn't the player he used to be. When the center position on a team isn't elite, it doesn't matter how good your wingers are, they won't get the puck when they need it.
And Dan Bylsma isn't ever going to outcoach, outhink or outstrategize Mike Babcock.

>Respectfully disagree
>Other than Carlson's slot chance, USA chances were pretty easy for Price
>Rebound retrieval is key on the big ice and USA had few of those
>Little net presence, too -- which is why the PP was an 0fer
>Quick was great in goal for the USA
>That easily could have been a 4-0 Canada win |

What does that say about Blackhawk chances this year?
One elite center, one ok to good center, no one else. |

They didn't play well enough to beat Canada. Score was flattering to the US...Quick was the best player on the ice or this could have been ugly.
