Concerning the disallowed goal: that's the international rule - whether Quick knocked it off or not - and it didn't look to me like he did it on purpose - may be a bush league rule, but it is the rule.

As far as being ashamed for discussing women's hockey: you either didn't see the game, or you're not a fan of good hockey.

Agree on both points, but the IOC really ought to look at both the net dislodging rule and SO personnel rule. Having SO in the Olympics at all is bad enough, but if can be allowed to degenerate into a song & dance between ONE shooter and one goalie, it makes a mockery of the concept of team sport.

Also, a dislodged net that is still within its moorings has little to no effect on the outcome of a SOG, and while I don't believe Quick did it on purpose either, you could imagine a scenario in which goalies could learn to subtly & skillfully dislodge the net to get a whistle.

Re the Women's Gold Medal game, this was simply a great comeback and a great game. Kudos to the Canadian women for stepping up when it counted.

I believe Toews has room to improve as well. He can obviously score more goals (regular season and playoffs). He was an offensive force in 2010 cup run. He also can be even better defensively. If you wanted him to, he could be a pest like Bolland, but the difference is he'd score on you while he's annoying the piss outta you.

Women's hockey will get there too, it will just take some time.

In his rookie season. Captain Creampuff gets knocked on his ass at least 5 times a game. Let's see what the difference after the same number of games. At this point Mackinnon has scored 2 less goals. Oh and MacKinnon will probably play all 82 games. Something Johnny boy has never done.

The original statement, which was given the thumbs up by another poster, was that arguing about women's hockey is silly. Had nothing to do with the lack of competition - indeed, the previous actual discussion was about the game between the two best teams rather than the state of women's hockey. It was said by a couple posters that the game between the US and Canadian women wasn't worth discussing. I am not sure why it is silly; but given the intensity and high level of play in the gold medal game, I'm guessing that the reason has something to do with being barefoot in the kitchen...
