Pirri for Matt Martin - DarthKane
Ok...I guess I will go public now:
JJ, AL, and others on this board know I have spent the entire olympic break investigating the issues with Matt Martin.
If you check his last five games his ice time has been cut back to under 9 minutes in some five minutes.
I have tried to email just about everyone I know close to in the know about what is going on with no definitive answers.
Is he injured, in the doghouse?
No one who knows is talking.
he has THE most affordable contract in the league at one million, and you cannot expect isles to eat a part of that one too. (Very similar to Bickell's last affordable one)
There would HAVE to be a team issue for them to drop that contract.
And I am not sure if Brandon Pirri is the return they would be looking for...I mean the Isles WITH John Tavares WEREN't GOING to the playoffs where they?
So I don't see a panic.
And the fact that they have two guys Ryan Strome and Johan Sundstrom in the system to bring in, why would they TAKE Pirri when they can start on the job training for one of them?
And the fact that I feel the Hawks have no rostered guy contract they are willing to send to the Isle to make the Cap numbers work...this is not happening.
I love Matt Martin, JJ loves Matt Martin, and you all should love Matt Martin too (sing it!) |

I didn't mean to imply Pirri for Martin straight up. For one I know it doesn't work cap wise, second Snow would want something else in return in addition to Pirri.
There's always a way to make deals like this happen. |

When the PP started for team Canada we started watching the game in my office today. Somebody asked what the US's penalty was for and somebody else yelled out "hair pulling" in a dumb attempt at making fun of women's hockey. I just answered with "I didn't know Burrows played for Team USA". If looks could kills I wouldn't be here any more.

The "penalty" that gave the Canadian Men's team there game winning PP yesterday was weak too. Very, very weak. - Ogilthorpe2
Equally bad was the missed penalty shot Toews should have had |

That sounds like more fun then the afternoon I've been having... |

Just speculating, could be when it is all said and done ,Pierre Marc Bouchard is up with the big club playing either2nd or3rd line minutes barring a trade of some sorts. Phil Regin or whatever his name is,is just temporary afterthought for a few games til PMB gets some games in &proves he's healthy enough to play. Thought is,given his skill &skating abilities,he probably could play with Kane&Saad...........unless......stranger things have happened &we could pry Ryan Kesler out of Vancouver. But come 3:05 on 3/5' probably a big. NADDA! |

Sorry cup, barring some major injuries that's likely not going to happen. Bouchard sucks, he couldn't even stick in the Isles lineup, and I think he's had a few too many concussions to be a minimally useful player at the NHL level.
It's not a question of "when" or even "if" he gets healthy, he's not going to be an effective player. The guy likely will probably round out a career in the AHL or over here in Europe and call it quits if he can even stay on the ice, which is something he's not been good at for several years now.
Regin's cheap, and it seems he can skate well. Whether he has any more redeeming qualities than that remains to be seen, but he'll be sticking around in Chicago more likely than not. PMB has the most infinitesimal of chances to ever be on an NHL roster again. |

well it WAS an easy give (a 4th) for insurance, but I totally agree that Regin being up and JP Bouchard not has little to do with ability and more to do with Cap.
When the playoffs start the Cap disappears as does team roster size.
Yeah Bouchard has had plenty of trouble from the initial concussion, but as a Black Ace he is a vet that will be ready for a chance to try and help win a Cup.
Regin's speed and defensive responsibilty and the fact he plays centre this season (as opposed to Bouchard, who was brought up and centre and his expiration date ended his stint there in Minny.
To me they are different players but equal in terms of why they were acquired: insurance. |
