Watching the American and Canadian women square off.

The American Captain, Duggan (sp?) had a beauty of a snipe top corner to give the US a 1-0 lead heading into the end of the 2nd.

Yeah, a very good game so far. I was thinking the Canadians have had the upper hand by just a bit, but that was a sweet shot. The team that loses might wish they'd taken advantage of their PP opportunities.

OT! That was a sweet setup and shot by the Canadians to tie. Great hustle after losing the FO.

After a US clear hit the post - after the ref kept the Canadian at the point from getting to the puck.

That was some "interesting" officiating in the Women's gold medal game, especially in OT.

Too bad a game ends up decided like that.

Not sure what the first US penalty was for - didn't have sound on the feed.

But - didn't understand why there wasn't a penalty shot on the Canadian breakaway.

I didn't know the best referees for Women's hockey come from that hockey hotbed of Great Britain.

But ...... referees aside, the USA gagged it.

The ref called it crosschecking so she wouldn't have to award a penalty shot.

Why does that make a difference?

It was a breakaway / clear path / whatever you want to call it.

What was the first penalty for - hitting the goalies pads?

That breakaway doesn't happen if the slashing call doesn't happen. "Evening things up" turns into an advantage for the other team. Phuckery at its finest.

I see, the USA didn't blow the game, they got screwed out of the Gold.

They blew it in the 3rd period FOR SURE. OT was a different story.

These women were playing for the gold, so I would have let the first call to Canada pass. Give some leeway and let them play...

but yes, blowing a 2 goal lead was bad.

That lose is gonna hurt for a long time. Seems that the US women beat the Canadian team often, but almost never in championship games.

Oh well...now get on with it, these Olymipic's are getting old...

That officiating was in deed "interesting". How can that not be a penalty shot?! And that's a cross-checking penalty as certain as the Canucks are going to win the Stanley Cup.

The slashing was weak - should have been a no-call in OT.

The second one should have been a penalty shot.

And really bad for Tavares Hopefully he will have a good and recovery and that our guys will all be fine after the games.

Another nice story of women hockey: Switzerland getting to the bronze medal game with one win. Nice comeback victory vs Sweden anyway, but what kind of modus...

Clearly an even up call after the Canadian penalty.

On TSN the colour commentator said the U.S. had been warned earlier about slashing after the whistle.

The "penalty" that gave the Canadian Men's team there game winning PP yesterday was weak too. Very, very weak.

Regardless, still a garbage call. Let 'em play.

There was nothing reckless going on in OT, but the ref couldn't resist and had to become the focus of attention.

Disappointing way to end the game.

When the PP started for team Canada we started watching the game in my office today. Somebody asked what the US's penalty was for and somebody else yelled out "hair pulling" in a dumb attempt at making fun of women's hockey. I just answered with "I didn't know Burrows played for Team USA". If looks could kills I wouldn't be here any more.
