The league wide parody is sufficient enough to ensure there would always be plenty of upsets. Imagine the disrespect that would be felt by let's say a #4 seed that is chosen by the #1 seed as "the weakest link" over seeds 5-8. It would take the pride factor up a notch or two for that team, and I guarantee you there would be upsets. The more I think about it, the more I like it. Logistically it might not be realistic though.

Logistically, why wouldn't it work? You often don't know who you're going to play until after the last regular season game is played anyways - what's the difference if you choose your opponent or have one selected for you?
