Only 40 NHL games in his career at the age of 24.
Could be a late bloomer. - jbold
Wasn't Gardiner about 22 when he arrived here out of College?

There was this other defenseman that scored 20 goals in the AHL, actually the last to do it before Brennan, the team didn't think that much of him but brought him up to give him a shot and now is a mainstay with that organization.
Who was it?
hint: he plays for the Bruins. - LeafMan

Boychuk... that's not exactly a ringing endorsement though |

The point being, you don't know unless you give the player a chance. Some are late bloomers, ie. Rafalski.
Boychuk is a big part of the Bruins D |

Boychuk. - LeafMan
And yet, he's not even an offensive Dman in this league.
He can actually play defense.
Brennan? Not so much.
If you're an offensive dman who struggles defensively, what good are you when you arent putting up points?
AHL offense doesnt always translate into NHL offense. Carter Ashton, Boychuk, Kostka, and many other players are living proof.
Are we really going to wait around for this guy to learn defense, or will we go with guys who are NHL calibre? |

What Brennan is doing in the AHL this season is pretty impressive. We can slag him and his defense, but he was a 2nd round pick for a reason. I'm for giving him a shot, but I doubt he'll get it. |

How did Ashton get thrown in there? How the hell do we possibly know if Ashton can bring offense to the NHL? He's been stuck with two guys who have 0 goals in 62 gp, and have generated a whopping 13 shots in that time. As for Kostka....on the Norfolk team he was more a defensive stalwart than an offensive one.

Im sure he'll be a 7th Dmen in the NHL for some team, but he doesnt fit the Leafs.

Torey Krug? - mykokes
No, but everyone said he couldn't play defense in the NHL. Good positioning is all you need to learn, offensive instincts can't be taught. How many Norris winners were tough hitting D-men. POSITIONING. |

I point to Torey Krug on that one. Too small, terrible defensively, but exactly the sparkplug boston needed in the end. |

McNabb can't make the Sabres....they're an organization obsessed with giving Tyler Myers 24 minutes of ice time a night. Brennan was fine in Florida, many Florida fans wonder why he was jettisoned. |

Brennan deserves a shot- it's not like this team has a world beater defense anyways
Sign him to a one-way next season, give him a good shot at making the team.
If he doesn't fit, waive him... you may lose him if you do, but if you don't offer him that one-way contract, he's 100% going to be playing somewhere else. |

In order for Ashton to be effective and productive, he needs top 6 minutes and PP time.
If Brennan wants to be productive and effective, he needs bottom pairing minutes and top PP time.
It's all about opportunity, and these guys wont get it here considering how there is better options. basically, Like I said, he doesnt fit this team |
