Snippets...heard the U.S. has reason to be
- philco28
Meh. its a prelim game. US had beat them 4 straight. With two teams evenly matched, Canada was due for a win. Now the US doesn't have to beat them 6 straight to win the gold if they get there. |

Not evenly matched. Huge advantage for Canada in the coaching. Dineen came in late and took some lumps in the 1st couple of games but was able to size up what the Canada women were up against and had time to implement a system he was comfortable with. Meanwhile at the same time the US coach cut the defenseman who was the TOI & +/- leader at the Vancouver Olympics. In the last 2 years with the national team there was 1 goal scored even strength by the opposition when this particular women was on the ice. As soon as this woman was cut the games all of a sudden were much closer. US coach Katey Stone is over her head. The US women play real well when all goes well. But throw a little adversity into the mix and Stone starts to pressure them. And it's usually downhill from there. Momentum is with Canada and there's good reason for it. |

Katey had a lovely scarf and winter coat on behind the bench. Looked much better dressed than Kevin Dineen. |

The second goal for Canada clearly crossed the line after the whistle sounded. I have no idea how they reviewed that and called it a good goal. On the third goal for Canada, it looked like Knight's stick was held leading to the breakaway. Three times Canada had six skaters on the ice yet they were only called once for too many men? I only caught the second half of the replay, but it was bad. - NewToHockey
No worse an officiating job than what Tim Peel pulls off as an NHL referee. |

@ESPNChiHawks: Brandon Pirri is named the MVP of the AHL All-Star Game. He had two goals and an assist for the AHL team in a 7-2 win over Farjestad BK.

The Oilers need a player like Leddy as much or more than most.
At 22 he could play 20 mins a night now in Edmonton and would improve your team.
Bowman would have little problem, there would be a long line....The only question is whether he would feel secure enough trading away a player who isn't close to his prime and could be a top 3 defender once he is. - Al
I don't agree at all.
to say someone could play 22 mins a night on edm is completely different than playing 22 EFFECTIVE mins. Justin Schultz has played 23 mins a night on more than one occasion. ference is on our top pairing sometimes
while I agree we need a guy who can skate and carry the puck out of our zone. we so much more need a true two way guy that can play big minutes and withstand a tough forecheck. don't forget our forwards are relatively small, and don't provide a lot of support. we have an absolutely terrible defence, but not nearly enough blame has been put on our top 6 forwards inability to support and their weak defensive acumen.
I wont discount that leddy could help(a lot of dmen could help us) but he's certainly not the prototypical player we're looking for.
think ryan mcdonagh...
we could even use a bruising, slow skating, shutdown guy even more than we could use leddy at present.
and I certainly wouldn't give up major assets for him at the present time |

we deserved that win in the Olympic soccer.

Referring to the Leddy talk earlier in the thread....The kid is 22....22!! An he is sheltered, but for a 22 year old,he is putting up nice numbers, and according to the eye test,at least imo,he is a much better defender this year, and has made some strides...Donno how many of you recall watching Keith when he was a 22 year old...If Leddy keeps improving at this pace,in another 2-3 years he can be the #3 dman on this team..And then he will only be 25 or 26 years old, with another 7-10 years of great hockey...I think they are developing him nicely and are being smart with him...but hey that's just my opinion |

At the 2012 games, Canada got phucked by bad officiating in a semi-final loss the U.S. and in basketball...i believe the U.S. is dominant.

McNeill thinks the game well, has nice vision, hands and shot....but can he break through ????????????
Other than the slam dunks of Toews and Kane...Hawk first rounders have really struggled to break through since Seabrook in '03. - philco28
I will not say anything about TT or Hartman since they have not made it to even the AHL, but previous years with those exceptions appear to follow a past trend. Some of the picks from the past 10 years picks remind me of highly touted draft choices like Eric Lecompte as well as the steals of the 2000 draft: Pavel Vorobiev and Mikhail Yakubov (back to back 1st rounders chosen over "less talented" players like Orpik, Kronwall, Ott, and Justin Williams). |

Hey Phil,
don't know if you saw the US-Canada womens game yesterday - thought Canada totally dominated, but the US got hosed on that 2nd goal. Whistle clearly blew before the puck crossed the line...
Meanwhile US men 7-1 over Slovakia. Look forward to watching Canada's game this evening on the DVR. |

Whole US team is just too fast on the big ice: they're beating the Slovaks to every puck, especially in the offensive zone, and thru the bigger neutral zone. |
