See I argued against it at the time and didn't believe it, nor the Peca deal "had to be made". I liked the potential with Chara, Pyatt and Connolly and loved that upcoming draft. I realize Wang was trying to make a splash and help the team return to relavance but I always felt Yashin's two big seasons in Ottawa were more a product of his surroundings. I don't buy in when people called him 'lazy' or anything, but simply didn't think he was explosive enough to bet the franchise on. - keaner17
It wasnt really betting the franchise thou... it was a first rounder, a second paring D-men at best (Chara) and a throw in of Muckalt for a first line center in the prime of his career. That's a pretty damn good deal.

Looking forward to seeing the Isles give up some more young assets for Ryan Miller, just so he can REJECT a contract extention and go free agent in July !! - rsmarro
He takes it to another level by rejecting the trade all together

It was betting on it in that they were prepared to give him a contract that would handcuff the franchise for a decade. That player, while considered a very good offensive talent, was very questionable in terms of just how 'elite' he was. Ottawa obviously didn't agree with our assessment. It was knowingly throwing away a shot at drafting a player who many at that time were saying had the skills to be a franchise forward in Spezza, while also adding in two useful players. I understand why some were excited by it at the time, I simply wasn't one of them. I didn't believe he'd ever see 40 goals again. |

PMB is making 2 million dollars.. fyi. Regin is 700k.. so even 1/2 price I assure you PMB was NOT a "throw in".. especially to a team at the cap limit. - niteislander
Why couldn't he be a throw in? You are not getting a 4th round pick for a guy who only makes 700k. The monetary value has to be justified to get that kind of pick.
Plus he's in the AHL so his number doesn't count against the cap |

I was telling folks yesterday that the market for dmen over the last few years was not for 1st round picks but 2nd rounders with additional lower round picks. GM's just don't want to deal 1st rounders these days and most of the dmen we've seen traded as of late have brought home 2nd rounders with additional picks. This comes today from Botta:
"An NHL GM told me this am that he views Andrew MacDonald's trade value as a late 2nd round pick plus a 5th rounder"
So maybe that GM is low on Amac, but at best, I think we maybe get a 2nd and a 3rd. |

He will shoot that trade down like he did the rumored Edmonton trade. I mean it would be great if we could rob you guys again but let's be realistic here |

Not my intention at all- as I can ADMIT that my team has made it's share of bad moves over the years. And it would good to see some intelligent thought out resposes from hockey fans (except for little niteislander who appears to just be an angry fan). |
