I am sorry Isles fans. Hawks brass was not willing to part with that can of Pringles. - faustus1500
you just got 2 bums and lost 1.3 mill in cap space ... we should be appologizing to you and thanking you for the trade. |

This is a horrible trade for Chicago.. and somehow u are still ranting on Garth. Garth just dumped 2 guys no one on here would think we could get rid of.. dumped them for a 4th round pick.. It's a slam dunk. Chicago will not have either of these guys playing after 3 games. - niteislander
Bouchard already in AHL with hawks. His point is that if hawks have an injury Bouchard and Regin are better options than a rookie come playoff time. |

I'm hoping Gibson too. Franchise goalie.
As for regin and pmb. Who cares. - Spartiarti
If im the Isles I go for Hiller. He is young enough and NHL proven. Goalies are flaky, Gibson could be touted all he wants, but his early days could be a struggle.

classic double standard scenario:
islanders have PMB and Regin, everyone says they suck.
islanders trade PMB and Regin, everyone says they are great insurance policies and can produce 8-10 minutes a game. |

I have never seen a professional hockey player miss open nets like PMB. He stinks and I can't believe there were able to move him... at all let alone get a pick. paying 1/2 the salary of these bums means Garth just saved 1.3 mill he should never have spent to begin with... - niteislander

Well, I agree that there's a constant double standard with Isles evals but let's face it, PMB and Regin were not brought in as insurance. One was anticipated to be a top line partner for JT and the other was to be a third line player. Neither proved to be anything close to what they were anticipated and their new roles are what they were essentially demoted to based on performance...or lack there of. |

If that is the case then Garth will have him in the lineup Saturday on every shift. |

they were both useless with the Islanders, but I can see them being a whole lot better with a better NHL organization with real coaches |

I thought they were lousy signings at the the time and I'm sorry I was right. Find it funny some fans were attacked because we did not like the moves made this offseason. |

WOW - this trade will change the entire landscape for NY hockey... Oh wait, i'm thinking about the Scott Gomez for Ryan McDonagh trade again.

I can understand why some teams might go after Regin because of his speed. PMB was probably just a throw in. And since this draft is pretty weak Garth really didn't get a whole lot for the both of them. I would probably assume Regin will be a healthy scratch for most nights. Like some people were saying that he sucked on our fourth line but Chicago's 4th line is better than our 2nd. |

I thought the PMB move was a boom or bust type move. I knew he had skill and occasionally made moves that could bring fans out of their seats, but hadn't seen him in a year or two. I certainly had no idea his game had deteriorated that much. In the case of Regin, I knew very little and wasn't enthused about it at all.
Overall, I don't know anyone who 'liked' the moves for the offseason but I also don't think anyone expected they would be damning moves either. Obviously a whole lot more went wrong than just those two.
To me, the biggest issues, in order were:
1. Injuries to Strait, Lubo, Nabby and Hamonic
2. Capuano's inability to adjust the teams system based on personnel
3. Complete disappearance of secondary scoring (Grabner, Bailey, Cizikas, Martin, Clutterbuck etc)
4. Poulin's inability to take the job and run
5. Garth's decision to not stop the bleeding on the blueline.
I think if at least two of any of those issues don't fail, we're in the playoff race. That said, I didn't want Garth to sell the farm to make us a fringe team either. I'm very interested in seeing just how we come out of this trade deadline and subsequent offseason. Based on the offers to Vanek and Amac, I don't think there's any question that management is prepared to spend some money. |

I think folks are setting themselves up for disappointment on what we'll get for Vanek. Just my opinion, but I just don't think the windfall offers are going to be there. |

I'm growing more concerned with that. My biggest concern is that if Jagr is available, he could actually be seen as a better addition. Sure Vanek is (alot)younger but Jagr is producing the same point output with lesser linemates. He's also bigger and more talented, has great experience and is cheaper too. Then throw in Moulson's availability and it takes at least two teams out of the running for Vanek. If we don't have a trade in place for today, it's time to start worrying a bit more since it's known the Isles "want' to deal him now. |
