FA will not be better than Amac... be warned now!!! - jimmc7722
This team lets in just as many goals this season with Streit as part of the D. I grant you that the power play might not be 0 for its last 3,547,653. But add to his poor D that he's signed for three more years, and I'm fine with him being a Flyer.
I'll say the same about AMac when some other team signs him for 5 years.
Imagine if we kept both and gave them what they wanted? $10M+ tied up in Streit and AMac
I know the cap is not an issue, but if there's $10M to spend, there has to be better ways to spend it. |

I agree the money is not great or the term.
But Vis will be gone soon.
Defence is getting worst instead of better.
We have money and cap room to spare.... need to start keeping some guys around.
I just don't see this team getting better with losing all their players. |

No easy answers! I would say though that I don't think the D could ever be worse than than the Staios, Mottau, etc. season...but in general, D's been a problem since like 2008. Even if they don't find an ace for the D, they need some size and nastiness. Teams don't really have a hard time hanging out in our zone and setting up in front of the net. |

In the immediate future deHaan & Donovan will be the PP QBs and they are both quite capable.
we need 2 solid min munching defensive d-men... 2 guys that NEVER think offense.

Woke up in the middle of the night and saw on my Facebook hockey group an islander fan complaining about ownership that they just want to be on the cap floor because they gave up on Bouchard and Regin. Who are both young and capable of breakout seasons next year if it wasnt for the coach.
I think I'm on candid camera |

Yeah, I saw some dumb motherf***er say something like that on Facebook, too...the main quote on the page was something about the Isles retaining half the salary, and I said the Blackhawks get to retain all of the talent, and some jacka$$ agreed with me and said he hated the trade. That joke went right over his head like the airplane in the Wayne's World movie. We Islanders fans are complainers, and rightfully so to an extent, but some of us take it to the level of "king of the stupid". |

All I want for next year, for all the Islanders fans who defend Capuano (and trust me, there are a lot more of these imbeciles than you would think), is a brand new staff of coaches who have done something- Laviolette would be fine; anyone who has done anything. Prove to me that all the players on this team suck, and that's why they suck. It's like schizophrenia- the same people on the internet who whine that we can't trade Grabner, or this one, or that one, because we need them, are the same people who tell me it's not the coach's fault. Snow sucks, Wang sucks, but all of the players are great, and Capuano has been dealt a losing hand.....allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrighty then.....there's nothing I like more than the logic of someone who belongs in a mental institution to get me through the day. |

A couple of years from now, our defense will be a lot better. We have some decent prospects- de Haan is already better than most of them, and he just got here. It's the goaltending that is the issue- Nilsson needs to stay in Bridgeport with a coach who can help him until he is really ready to play at this level. However, we need someone who is not 40 years old to play for us until that happens. There, to me, is the real personnel weakness, which is about 10% of the problem. 90% of the problem is the dope behind the bench- that's a guarantee. Hire a proven NHL coach, and by the time this team hits the ice in Brooklyn, it will be one of the better ones in the league, guaranteed. |

Cappy's Battle Level is simply too high to get that last finger to release the ledge.
The Cappy situation will thing that pushes me over the edge with Snow. |

Staple:
As announced earlier, Matt Donovan sent to BPT so #Isles will likely have Travis Hamonic in lineup tonight.
I don't understand why Hamonic's playing tonight. No point in playing him for the one game |

I love how everybody wanted Streit out last year... this year Amac... then complain we have no defence...
Who will it be next year???
Donovan....
Strait...
de Haan...
Hamonic....
Hickey... - jimmc7722
Sort of the nature of an improving franchise. Same in the case of our forwards. As more and more of our prospects reach the age where they can contribute, some of the players who were once at the top end of our depth chart become less important.
As guy's like Reinhart, Mayfield, Pedan, Pulock etc join this team, folks like Hickey, Carkner, Amac, Vis and Strait become less and less necessary and more expendable.
Streit, while capable on the powerplay, is no longer capable in his own zone. Amac, while looking fine on a lottery team, looks less and less necessary as guys like Hamonic and de Haan come of age. |

Letang's health situation can actually lead to having the Pens have a strong look at AMac as a rental given his low salary. Not sure what they have in the system. |

would have been better if at least one of Jagr and Moulson had gotten dealt yesterday. Despite Vanek being younger, I see Jagr on even par as an acquisition for a rental and Moulson as a poor man's downgrade. All three are capable of filling an offensive need. That certainly won't help our asking price and leverage. |

Is Jagr in play? The Devils are only 3 points back. |
