Canned? As in killed?
Couldn't agree more - kneughter
You guys deserve a GM who checks his ego at the door. |

Accurate.
Frustrating especially since I know we're not the worst team in the league but we're certainly playing like it right now. - AlexF
I'm really interested to see what this teams looks like in a normal NHL season, not a shortened lockout season or a condensed Olympic year, but the way Torts plays these guys the whole team needs some rest. |

I just had my last cigarette so if I lose it and go off on anybody in the next couple of days, I apologize in advance. Then again you may have earned it. - A_SteamingLombardi
Identify your triggers and avoid/remove them all for a month.
Smoke when you drink? Don't drink.
Smoke around certain people? Don't see them for a bit.
Smoke in certain places? Don't go there.
Smoke during breaks? Take your breaks at different times.
It sounds crazy, but what most people fail to consider or forget is that there's more to quitting smoking than just the cigarettes. Some habits feed or enable others.
I smoked for nearly 10 years and at my worst I was going through two packs of Benson & Hedges a day (strong butts). I tried everything and this is what finally worked.
Commit to it.
Good luck, Dude.

There's no such thing as a "window" in hockey.
It's a poorly-devised and -applied term to describe the natural fluctuations in a team's core.
So which year was "year 1" of the Flames rebuild? - Fosco
We are not talking about the Oilers here...obviously the Flames are in year one after trading Iggy, Jaybo, Tanguay, last year.
And there is a window...ya blew it
With 3 boat anchor contracts given to aging core players the team will be on the decline for a while and this core will never have another opportunity to win a cup
window=closed
the sooner you come to grips with it the better off you will be |

yeah, ok, because the previous few years they had those players they were real contenders.
The rebuild started a while ago—the GM just didn't get the memo until last season... |

Who said today Schroeder Booth and a 2 nd for Gaborik.
resign him at 4.5 mil 2 years
Gab Kesler Kassian 2 nd line - VANTEL
Gaborik hasn't played much the last couple seasons... does he still have it?
We are seeing Kassian skating a bit more but is still a bit reckless with the puck when he should be getting it deep or coughs it up. |

Yet we get told the years where the Oilers were desperately trying all sorts of band-aid solutions were already rebuild years. Flames rebuild started with Monahan. Our started with Hall. |

Yes, in Vancouver the window is closed and in Calgary the vacuum is on and in Edmonton the dog is howling at the moon and in Winnipeg Leon is getting larger. I picked a bad day to quit cigs. |

I think I heard that we are the worst team in the NHL since Jan 1, 2014 - Bluechip23
Here's the good news. 6 straight losses and we're still in 8th place. our goals against is not good but it's much better than every team below us. Tighten up the D, score more than 2 goals once in a while and this team sqeaks in.
Here's the bad news. The 8th seed plays Chicago or Anaheim.
Here's the worse news. Our GM won't approach any player with a NTC for a trade. Grow some balls Gillis and stop putting your players ahead of the franchise and the fans that are turning the team into a billion dollar empire. I don't care what a player was promised or what's in their contract. Things change and your job is not to protect the player. You are not an agent anymore.
If this is what sucking feels like, I almost feel sorry for making fun of Leaf and Oiler fans for so long. Being a fan of a crappy team sucks worse than anything. Even more than what happens to this guy: http://www.cbc.ca/news/ca...-groin-for-cash-1.2525856 |

I'd have to agree. A rebuild can only start when it's embraced. The years that a team wallows in suckitude leading up to a rebuild are usually years of denial or the lost years. Those usually come around when someone's job is on the line and bad decisions are made. |

Only now, at this late hour, does understanding begin. At one point, Gagner, Cogliano and Nilsson were supposed to be the harbringers of a winning team. It gets worse before it gets better.
Dont ask me when it gets better though. We still dont know. |

Well. At least the potential of a very good team is in Edmonton. A couple good moves and that team finds itself in the 6th seed next year. Vancouver's only hope is to find a new 1st line and to get the Sedins down to 16-17 mins a game and to let kids like Jensen, Gaunce, Horvat, Corrado, Tanev, Hutton, Lack, etc., develop. We also need a surprise like Fox to make the team.
We're screwed until the new core, hopefully the one listed above, is ready in 5-6 years. I'm sick of losing. |

Drafting, development, and coaching aside, it's tough to imagine it ever truly getting to contender status better if the Oilers organization are committed to payroll spending of 24th highest in a 30 team league.
Unfortunately in this league, as with most things in life, money talks. |

If we had some cap space, I am guessing Tanev and a pick would get us Parenteau.... |

I think just a pick will land Parenteau. Especially considering they only wanted Bourque in return for him from Montreal. |

Giving up Tanev is a massive error. He's part of the future and is not part of the problem. |
