Too late , we are now the Flames 2.0 - VANTEL
Look at the injuries the Canucks have sustained this season, on top of the suspensions, and they're still in a playoff position. They're nowhere near the Flames. |

We are 5 games under .500 - VANTEL
Nope.
New rules.
EDIT: Not even new, anymore. |

I don't consider shootout losses/wins as legit, they're ties in my books when evaluating a team. - Nucker101
I do, they are part of the point system , same as PP and PK |

The returns are higher at TDL - VANTEL
With the brutal UFA class this year and the cap going up the returns could be really high at the draft this year compared to previous years. |

That would be a good return. - Fosco
Agreed, Minny has some nice young players. I'd love Coyle. |

That's bull. Stop using the injury reason. Canucks have been on a decline for the third year in a row. I blame age and toughness more than injuries. Yes we won two president trophies while we were in the AHL division . Whoopee |

That's the type of package it would take, IMO.
But I don't see the appeal for Minny, TBH.
They're not close enough to make that type of move. |

Doesn't translate to the playoffs so it seems kinda stupid to call a team that has 2/3 shootouts specialists and gets like 8 or 9 shootout wins(with 45 wins total) a better team than a team with only 3 shootout wins but also 45 wins total.
I'd take the 2nd team all day. |

Injuries are one factor. No denying it.
But it exposes the larger problem--not enough depth, or high-end forwards.
Don't downplay how good this team was, though.
They had as good a record out of the division as they did within. But the "soft" games did help in the long run. |

That team was pretty stacked and underachieved big time. Also a young team and were not on the decline. They had good possession numbers as well, in reality people shouldn't have been so shocked by them as an "underdog". |

Mind u ...KES has a short list of teams, cause of being NTC; for MG to deal with.....Im thinking also..Philly, his hometown-Detroit...and maybe Washington? - Canuckfan2006
I think Kesler would go where he thought he could have a chance to win. And maybe Detroit too...
How about Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, NY Rangers? Or, **gulp** Chicago... St. Louis... |

Thanks for all the info from the fans perspective. Loved Tort's in NY,but I also think he has like a 4-5 year shelf life for 1 team. One thing I would blame him for is the PP as it was horrendous in NY with Sullivan. We used to joke that the Rangers should waive the PP because it would kill any momentum. |

I disagree . Didn't the kings or Flyers make the playoffs one year on a SO?

What will you say if, hypothetically, the team goes on to a 6-7 game win streak?
Are we contenders again, or declining in a downward spiral of epic proportions?
This thread is, and has always been filled with over the top emotion based on current play, points and standings.
For instance, L.A is currently on a 4 game losing streak, lacks any scoring ability and is dealing with injuries as well, and yet no one is referring to them as the next Calgary/Edmonton.........

They were good 2011, then after the Boston game in 2012 they started the derailment |

Teams like FLA/NJ as well if I'm not mistaken. I'd rather have a team that can wins games by scoring actual goals. The Flyers suck in shootouts, LA is probably the exception to the rule of a good team that needed the SO wins to get in. |

I like Niño and I agree I was thinking Kes for Coyle Niño and a second but I like your deal better - VANTEL
We'd need Granlund, that's a no brainer for me and he could slot in immediately as 2C. I'd take either Coyle or Nino to slot in on his wing. We might have to drop the pick idea or add something but I think that's a basis for something.
Minny would be rolling next season with:
Vanek-Koivu-Parise
Pominville-Kesler-Coyle/Nino
That would vault the franchise forward IMO.
And we'd be rolling with a more mixed top 9 of vets and youth:
Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Higgins-Granlund-Coyle/Nino
Shinkaruk-Horvat-Hansen
Anyway, it's something like this that I believe MG should be targeting now and unfortunately we'll need to give to get. |

And your point is ? How does a player like Kesler help a team get over the hump at draft day as opposed to TDL when they are fighting for a PO spot?

Agree to most except take Higgins of the top 6 time to put Kassian in there |
