Report: MacDonald Rejects 4-Year, $16 Million Offer From Islanders - CBS Local http://goo.gl/t6VgC

No one wants to play for Islanders

- LeftCoaster

I hope he isn't holding out for more. MacDonald is just not worth that offer, let alone more.

Thought one of the Islanders posters yesterday was saying they hoped he would be traded- gives the puck away too much and bone headed plays... Gillis- sign him!

- hillbillydeluxe

He's playing too big a of a role for the Isles, he's a decent player though. Would be better if he wasn't a top pairing guy for a team with shaky goaltending.

Chara is the flag bearer for his country I believe?
- LeftCoaster

Heard he was just going to wave the flag around in his hand, no pole needed.

Sign of things to come in July.

I still laugh at the trolls who say Edler has no or minimal value. They'll be eating their words when they see the contract handed out to the few decent dmen that make it to July unsigned.

I'm sure they just can't wait to leave their million dollar homes a few days early for the kids sized beds in Russia.

Sleep over!

All those guys doing each others hair and nails... pride flags everywhere. Holding hands while on the can.
Better go for gold or it was a big waste.

Tell you what, I'm surprised most pending UFAs don't just wait until summer to cash in on what are clearly overprice contracts. Unless you happen to be on a prime SC contender, just tell the GM to (frank) off and wait until July.

some probably prefer staying in a place, especially if they have family rooted there. Kinda of a balance between $ and life outside of hockey.

Agreed. I'd probably be afraid of getting overpaid in a Canadian market or somewhere like Philly/NY though. You'll get killed in the media and become a laughing stock..and unless you're an older player planning to retire after your UFA deal then it would hurt your chances of getting decent money on your next deal. You can get away with not playing completely up to your potential in a smaller US market easily though and still maintain a good reputation around the league.

It is funny when you hear the talking heads say "artificially low" salary cap for this present season. It is almost as though the lockout didn't happen. GM's are going to sign free agents to crazy contracts this summer and we will see guys making crazy money that don't deserve it and thus skewing the comparables and inflating future player contracts...

Doesn't sound too hard to be a GM except you have to be willing to sign sh!t players to crazy money.

I would only want him if he is a lefty and comes with a NMC/NTC and signs for 5+ mil on a 5 year deal.

Yeah, I don't really care if the GM is a nice guy or cocky/arrogant at all. Just get the job done. Just found it funny listening to those 2 guys, fans in Vancouver would lose their minds with trade proposals and the media would be all over the locker room if Gillis was that open/specific as a Tallon/Rutherford.
- Nucker101

In that role being honest with the fans / media often comes across as arrogant. Most GMs have some of that arrogance / competitiveness in them, it's what makes them successful. I agree, as long as they get the job done, who cares.

This will be a tough game. I call it Montreal by 2. Next game will be a blowout for Canucks. We will crush the leafs. I say 7-1 Canucks. Bernier will get lit up. GCG.

Greetings!

Apologies for my late appearance; I was liveblogging the new Olympic team figure skating competition for much of the morning.

The good news: Canada's doing well! Currently in second place behind the Russians.

The bad news: the Canucks play again tonight. Here's the new blog:

I expect Dalpe to score a hatty and get called out by Torts after the game for being the best player on the team.
