Does redundant mean the same in Quebec as it does in the rest of Canada) Edler would be your 2nd best d man, so apparently it doesnt - Bieksa#3
Not even close. If we're talking offensive defensemen Markov and Subban are both much better than Edler. Defensively Gorges and Emelin are both better than Edler. SO what does he bring to the table that Montreal needs more than a guy who's put up 23 goals so far this season? |

Maybe if you're only factoring in this season to date.
Edler's struggling with a new coach/system and a revolving cast of partners.
He's proven what he brings to a team when he's not being jerked around.
Not sure why the coaches can't see that Tanev and Edler have always played well together, instead of trying to move Garrison to his off side, or pairing Edler with Bieksa, where the two hilight each other's weaknesses. |

So I'm on drugs becasue I believe a top line winger who has put up 23 goals is more important to a team with a struggling offence than a defenceman who has 4 goals (13 points) and -19 in 39 games? |

My point is Montreal needs Pacioretty far more than they would need Edler. Even if Edler wasn't struggling so badly it still wouldn't make sense from Montreal's end |

Redundant, as in Edler's role is already filled with superior players in Montreal. He wouldn't be a top pairing guy, he wouldn't be on the first powerplay unit. Now how about you answer my question. What would Edler bring to Montreal that is more important to a team with a struggling offence than a top line winger with 23 goals? |

I'd have to agree. Edler for Pacioretty might have been fair value 2 years ago but that ship has sailed. |

Edler would definitely bump one of the guys you mentioned out of the top-4/PP, even if he's struggled this season.
To suggest he wouldn't is ridiculous.
Not arguing about MTL's greater need for a top6 W, though. |

So it is drugs. Edler is/easily the 2nd best d man Montreal would have. No defense man is "superior" to edler other then pk. Your starting to sound like a leaf fan frenchyi |

Markov - 5g 24a 29P +4 - One of the top powerplay quarterbacks in the league
Subban - 8g 30a 38p +4 24 year old Norris winner
Edler 4g 9a 13p -19
And still you sidestep my question on how Edler would be more important to Montreal than Pacioretty.
Either you're an idiot or youre trolling me, either way I'm done with you |

Edler would likely bump Emelin out of the top 4, but he certainly wouldn't bump Subban or Markov off the first powerplay unit. Also, Emelin and Edler fill two different roles, so again, he's redundant (compared to Markov and Subban) |

He's not redundant.
But I understand that a scoring winger is more important from MTL's point of view.
It's also pretty ridiculous that you're basing your argument against Edler on such a small sample size.

Edler wasn't very good last season either (although he was better than he's been this season). He's a shell of his pre-injury self and even he has admited he doesn't think his back will ever be 100%. |

They have a couple.
But what's the point bringing them up to a struggling team when Torts isn't going to play them for more than 5 minutes a game?
The reason they don't have a lot is because of the 2010 draft in which they didn't have a pick until the 4th round.
Those players would be in their pro+2 seasons, or 21-22 years old.
The rest are either too young or need more seasoning.
It's a product of trying to "win now" for so many years.
Let's not go through this song and dance again...
There's a detailed discussion on the Canucks draft success over the last 10-15 years over on the HF prospect board comparing them to other teams in the league, if you want to read it.
Spoiler alert: They're about middle of the pack--not the best, but not the worst. - Fosco
I was kind of saying that in jest, but I've looked at our current center depth in the minors - wow, it's almost non existent!! |

Alright, so Santorelli has better numbers then Callahan this season. Lets trade him for more then what Callahan brings(if healthy)

Too bad he's not a center, we've got Kesler and Schroeder (if Richardson is out) that have played more than 10 NHL games that is. |
