I'm only 13 yrs older than nucker. So technically I'm still young. I just don't get checked out by the 20 year old girls anymore.

There is a ton of quality players that never see the league because of the boys club. Seriously we half our current line up is due to scouting? Sedins Bieksa Kesler and on and on . Your F@cked if you think that scouting is our main problem.

Never said it was the MAIN problem. I was suggesting that it was part of the problem. While I know that there are eleventy billion variables that determine that outcome of the draft (IE: taking the best player available, organizational need, luck...) but there are plenty of examples were our scouting has dropped the ball where the pick or two right after our dud turns out to be a star. Like picking Patrick White over David Perron, Schroeder over Marcus Johansson, Rodin over Pirri or Tatar; to give a few examples.

Another thing that grinds my gears about our scouting staff is how we continually miss out on guys from our own backyard like: Cody Franson, Brendan Gallagher, Shea Weber, Milan Lucic, and Jamie Benn. Sure, a lot of other GM's missed that boat on them too, but at least you'd think we'd have a bit an inside track on them, for (frank)sakes!

All that being said, there are a lot of adjustments that currently need to be made in this organization; scouting is the tip of the iceberg.

Fair enough. It has been sub par. Not drafting the W has been a bane for me as well. I have watched a ton of nhlers come out of PG and you know that these kids are gonna make it. Byf, Hamhuis, Chara, and so on. There is some definite flaws in scouting not just Vancouvers.

Last year, for whatever reason, they seemed to approach the draft with a bit of a different perspective. I think they hired a new guy out of Detroit's system?

Delorme is the chief but useless. Everyone is afraid to fire him because he is a psycho, like the episode of Seinfeld where Elaine kept promoting the mail room boy because they were afraid of him.

he just sits around and eats donuts. Let's the real scouts do the heavy lifting.

A good read - Gillis still being reactive instead of proactive.

I wonder how many of the 46 players drafted since 2006 are nhl regulars. Doesn't scream like a bunch of talent is coming out of the w.

If anyone cares, list of w players per team. Can't fix link on phone... Sorry

I know drafting is different in the NFL, in that your drafting players that are immediately ready, but, I'd like to see more push from younger players on what is turning into an aging team.

How many Gillis players drafted or college free agents are contributing after six draft years? Cody Hodgson and Chris Tanev? It's a question more than a comment Fosco

I think the problem is that Gillis just had too many players on one way contracts earning big $ to legitimately give youth a chance. Under the new CBA you can't send Booth to the minors without having $3.35m of his salary count against the cap, so unless Jensen is such a huge improvement in play, it doesn't make sense to have a kid on an ELC playing in his place. The only way to truly have competition for roster spots is to only have 14 or 15 guys signed, and then bring in veterans on PTO's and prospects on ELC's and let them fight it out at camp.
