Greatest ever? No way! The Niners were 20 yards from beating that D, take away the bonehead throw. And as far as the donkey who said the Niners window is closing should put the pipe down. Wow! - whipper334
Who has had a better D. The '85 Bears? The 2000 Ravens?
The NFC Championship was the Superbowl. SF and Sea were the best 2 teams in the league.
I would put Seattle's D in the conversation for best ever. They were rock solid at ever single position and the stats back that up, especially with all the new rule changes that have benefited QB's and made the game more pass friendly. |

Before we throw Gillis under the bus, we need to treat these rumors just as what they are - rumors. Only The Canucks and Red Wings brass actually know what the offers were...... - chompsey
Yeah i agree, He has also done alot better at picking up player that fill in gaps for nothing so he has done more them some pas gms that only look for the big trade and miss out on players that could have been picked up for nothing. |

Best of all time. I could make my case with a long post, but I'm still celebrating. |

That defense is still amazing, they need a new RB for Gore and I'm sorry but I still don't trust Kap throwing the ball. - Nucker101
dalton is worse. As a Bengals fan who is used to them losing, the last three years have been even harder to take as our QB implodes in the playoffs every time.

You are too kind.
Injuries aside, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of gaps in the present roster...

Gillis is simply trying to squeak into the playoffs. I dont think he has any notion that we are any type of contenders, but for a rebuild to happen the revenue from another first round exit is better than not making it at all. Hence the deal we just saw.
The writing is that he is going to wait until after the season to make any real moves unless something falls in his lap. Taking away $500k in cap space in this trade (going from $750k to $1.25M) says that he is going to wait since this contract will come off the books at the end of the year as a UFA.
Was Vancouver the one team allowed to talk to Moulson's agent? That would be stupid unless it is for a short term deal with a decent cap hit. If you read Eks (e4) and TSN said one team was allowed to talk to him I would speculate GMMG is looking at him to pair with the Sedins. But this makes no sense if he is trying to do a rebuild of any sort. The oilers should be in the east at they are probably a great trading partner for the canucks. - KOS
with the sedin's new contracts the canucks don't look at all like they play to rebuild, and with the cap going up next year and having seen Moulson play with JT for years, I'd say having him with the Sedins would be exactly what they need to jump start them. Moulson goes to the front of the net and makes himself available and takes a pounding. He's not going to add anything other than that, but the Sedins don't need him to. They need a finisher, and he needs a set up man (or two). Moulson would be the best fit for those two they've ever had to play with (not best player they've played with, but best fit)

Nevada releases betting numbers for Super Bowl. $119M wagered ($21M more than last year), $19.6M won by books ($12.4M more than last year).
A $100m profit for one day's work? |

If that rumor was true then I would add to the list of trade blunders Gillis has been a part of. - fiveandagame
I cant see Gillis turning that deal down regardless of how incompetent I believe he is at making trades. There is always the possibility that Im giving too much credit to Gillis tho....

A scouting report on Diaz:
Assets: Is a smooth skater with puck poise and some offensive acumen. Moves the puck efficiently most of the time. Doesn't make a lot of mistakes when he has the puck.
Flaws: Lacks size and strength, so he can get knocked off the puck with relative frequency. Needs to be more assertive when on the ice, both on offense and defense.
Career Potential: Smooth, yet fragile puck-moving defenseman.
I just wonder how he will match up against big teams in the west like LA, SJ St.L ect? With the injury bug going through Vancouver, being described as fragile is concerning. - fiveandagame
Sure sounds like another J. Weber to me... |

According to many Habs fans Diaz was clearly better and he also beat Weber out last year. I'll take him over Weise...that's not saying much but I like the deal value-wise. |

Hey, if Diaz can move his way up the depth chart then all the power to him. The Pacific Northwest is so happy to get rid of Wiese that Seattle has decided to plan a parade. |

Any predictions on the game tonight?
I'm guessing Detroit 4-3
See the Canucks with more hits but running around too much trying for some big checks. |

Diaz has barely played during the Habs recent slump and there's a reason. Soft as wet, one ply toilet paper. Afraid of corners. Can't move anyone. Plus he stopped making good offensive plays. Beaulieu was given his spot and is doing more than Diaz did. I'm very happy to be rid of him for a 4th line checker with size and experience. Oh and he's waaaaay cheaper and is a rfa. Diaz can be a 4-5-6 d man and play 2nd PP IF he finds his game again. It just wasn't happening at all anymore after his concussion. It's like he is a completely dif player free that injury. Now we have almost 7 mill in deadline space - SmielmaN
Sounds like both teams will be happy to get new blood in this minor deal. I think the Canucks need Diaz presently more than Weise... no risk deal for us. If Diaz picks up his game and becomes reliable... all the better.

It really was a tough spot for Gillis. I completely understand what Fosco is saying about acquiring a good NHL ready player(s) for Edler, but there is a lot of potential in that package (good god I'm sounding like an Oilers fan )
It also make it's more interesting that with that pick the Wings selected Mantha.
Shinkuruk / Horvat / Mantha. |
