Torts opinion of the way the Canucks have been playing says a lot about Sullivan's inability to be a head coach! Maybe Gully as 2nd in command is a better option.
I hope there's more trades to come, but I won't be holding my breath. - LeftCoaster
Congrats on the toilet bowl. Sickest D I've seen in a long time.

That defense is still amazing, they need a new RB for Gore and I'm sorry but I still don't trust Kap throwing the ball. |

Boldin's getting old too, same for Justin Smith. Davis is 30 now. Unless the Seahawks have a SB hangover that window in SF is closing IMO. |

It would have been a risky deal, but I think it would have fit Gillis MO for the past couple of moves he had made. He traded both Hodgson and Schneider, (established NHL players) for a prospect and a pick. It would of made sense to pick up more young prospects like Tatar and Nyquist and start looking at forming a future core with Horvat, Shinkuruk and Kassian.
But you are right. If those players didn't work out he is in a tough spot.
It would have been a "bold move". - fiveandagame
Yup.
But those were both moves that Gillis was almost universally criticized for, which is certainly a reason to play it safe on another deal that could potentially see a young impact player leave the team for entirely question-mark players.
I think Gillis's grapes were drained of "bold" juice after his previous failings.
Also, your point about adding to the future core is valid, but at the time Gillis was likely still considering the Canucks contenders, or was at least advertising them as such to the owners.
Trading Edler for prospects doesn't exactly send that message. |

Peytons no huddle offense worked out really well yesterday
I laughed every time he was trying to yell the play, or audibles and players couldnt hear him |

I disagree. I think Diaz is a stop gap right now for all the injuries we have. He is UFA at the end of the year and Gillis can let him walk if he wants. At the end of the day all it cost was Wiese, who Gillis has been shopping for a couple of months now. I don't think this will have much impact on the next move (assuming there is one) - fiveandagame
It really sounds like we are in pathetic shape if our GM has been shopping a 4th liner for months. I think it is great that he was able to trade him for a dman that fills an immediate need, but the thought of trying to shake things up or w/e by trading a 4th liner that was originally picked up off waivers sounds nuts- I guess it is another indication of the lack of depth.

Wanna trade us some of your 4th liners? We don't have enough.
Serious note. What would it take to get Prust? - Linden_4_Capt
Prust is extremely valuable. He is a leader on the team, is an extremely effective PKer and obviously adds the toughness. I don't want to overvaluate him but he is a crucial component to the Habs.
I honestly think it would take a complete over payment because of his use and because he is not available for trade at all.
So with that said I will leave it at, no trade would make sense. |

They might have the greatest defence in the history of the game. Denver had a record setting offensive season and Seattle's D made them look like a Div. 2 college team. |

They traded for the wrong guy then...Sestito fills that role perfectly. Weise isn't a heavyweight fighter and not good enough for a regular shift in the playoffs.
Diaz is pretty soft apparently, but when this team's healthy, he's the #7 guy here. - Nucker101
Sestito's too tall for the Canadiens. |

So now that's it obvious that they aren't contenders, does Gillis start shopping guys like Edler? All those NTC's really puts a damper on things. |

This deal has Moneypuck Gillis written all over it. Wei seis a terrible puck possession player(talk about his goals all you want, but shooting percentage is flukey and will go back down and he'll resume producing like an AHL player). I kn ow it's just a depth move, but it's hard not to love this deal because....
-Diaz is a top 4 d-man in Montreal, possession wise. Last year he was pretty bad possession-wise though.
-Diaz has the lowest even strength goals against per 60 minutes played at ES this year on Montreal..by a decent margin. He was also at the lowest for Montreal last year as well.
He seems like a pretty solid bottom pairing dman when I look at the numbers. - Nucker101
Diaz has barely played during the Habs recent slump and there's a reason. Soft as wet, one ply toilet paper. Afraid of corners. Can't move anyone. Plus he stopped making good offensive plays. Beaulieu was given his spot and is doing more than Diaz did. I'm very happy to be rid of him for a 4th line checker with size and experience. Oh and he's waaaaay cheaper and is a rfa. Diaz can be a 4-5-6 d man and play 2nd PP IF he finds his game again. It just wasn't happening at all anymore after his concussion. It's like he is a completely dif player free that injury. Now we have almost 7 mill in deadline space
