Yup.
It's a player who could bounce back and help in areas of weakness (PP, PMD, RSD) for a former waiver pickup who nobody expected would garner a return.
I was less down on Weise than many in here, but even at his best, he's replaceable by other guys in the system.
Archibald did a fine job when he was up, and Sestito has proven he can provide more than what Weise does. - Fosco
For the reasons you mention above, Weise really had no place on this team.
Anyway, even though I like the trade it was a minor trade and likely won't have any impact on the Canucks fortunes moving forward |

Tatar, Nyquist and Smith. - fiveandagame
I can't imagine the Wings make that trade now. If the widely made reports are to be believed, Gillis blew it big time. |

A few of us were talking about seeing a good old fashioned trade yesterday. Nice to see one materialize so soon. Hope some of you feel a little better about MG this morning. As Boinker pointed out he could have been very easily been waived. Minor but good work none the less. - thundachunk
Yeah, this was a good old fashioned hockey trade. The only problem is it was a 13th forward for a 7th defenceman.
I still like it. Get Wiese off the books and give his spot to someone like Archibald all while improving the depth of back end. All in all a good move. |

anyone have an idea what Vanek has turned down for the Isles. It would be interesting to know what the offer was and roughly what he is expecting. - Bluechip23
Per Yahoo:
"It is believed that the offer is in the same range as his current seven-year, $50 million deal." |

If that rumor was true then I would add to the list of trade blunders Gillis has been a part of. |

So trade Edler for a top 6 forward
Hamhuis Bieksa
Garrison Tanev
Stanton Diaz - Boinker
I do think this is what they are aiming for, It is also a good short term in covering for injuries.
What we have leaned from GMMG... is that he loves undrafted players |

Now what am I gonna do with my Weise jersey? - gangsterstatus
Throw it on the ice at Rogers Arena!

Vanek knows if goes UFA he will probably get 7.5 - 8 mil. |

That would have been a big step into re tooling as well as saying competitive now. I can't see MG turning that down though. |

He'll aim for $8m on the open market and will probably find takers. If he goes for team quality rather than paycheck, he might settle for $7m per. Doubt he'd settle for any less than that even if the Blackhawks came calling. |

Traded Weise for a puck moving Olympian |

I hope MG is not done. But there is a logjam on D. I believe Tanev, Hammer, KB, Garrison, Stanton, Corrado are not going anywhere. That means players available for trade are Webber, Edler and Diaz. I don't believe there is a demand for undersized D. That means only Edler is available. However he does have a 5mil cap hit and a NTC. No team that is looking to shore up their roster for cup run is going to trade a top 6 player of equal cap hit. Also the only team that he would waive to go to would have to be a contending team (if he waives). This is the reason why this move makes no sense unless there is a major injury to Tanev or KB. It would have better off to get a 7th rounder IMO. But I am sure this is part of a process. |

What's up with Corrado? - LeafsFan64
Due to his massive potential he will be skipping the NHL entirely so he can prepare for the 2018 Olympics.
Hockey Canada does not wish to lose him to injury. |
