Gillis has tried to put the best product on the ice he could. Made a good move today. He has done everything except go out there win the f@cking games for them. The players are not playing the way they can.
- thundachunk

Gillis hasnt tried to put the best team on the ice or he wouldnt have made self imposed restrictions like *not* requesting NTC waives to correct his mistakes. Gillis limits his options. Its all about keeping this core together sink or swim.... it seems he's avoided many of the ballsy moves for money puck and safety and relying mostly on the previous two GM's work.

When Mike Gillis took over as GM, he said he didn't like No Trade Clauses. Now he has 10 of them. Shouldn't have changed his mind.

- LeftCoaster

I remember Mark Gage and I got into this topic. The Sedins were up for extension when Gillis got here and I said they were going to get NTC's. Not according to Gillis he argued. I never thought it would be a crutch Gillis would always lean on like it turned out. Gillis is over rated in so many ways...

Well, we turned Weise into something. Can only consider that a win of sorts.
- micah555

This can be true... or not. Like you always lecture, wait and see. Weise has scored more with less TOI than many of our other forwards and plays more physical than Kassian most nights. Not a fan of him. The Canucks need Diaz more than Weise right now but there was no need to throw him under the bus like Torts did today.

I took alot of heat on here for disliking the sedins extensions. Not looking great now by any stretch. Their numbers have been declining for a few years now; I was shocked they got those deals.

I seen their decline coming , and posted I wanted 4.5 to 5 max for two years, seeing they come as a package deal.

Yep . They are slower and don't often go to the dirty area in front of the net . If another team wanted to pay 6 Mil then they could have them. I knew last year it was time to shake up this core. It had all the classic signs same as when the old core with Naslund and Bert were falling apart.

T hey could have gotten a boatload for the twins . Another dumb move by Gillis

Gillis has doubled the amount of time Nonis was GM. Leash has been plenty long...

Well, a SCF appearance and a couple of President's Trophies in recent history can extend a GM's execution order. It has only really been this year (handcuffed by the Cap going down) and Last (a lockout shortened season) where it has come of the rails for MG. I think MG has this TDL, offseason, and next season to right the ship before FA says off with his head.

That being said, if this TDL and Draft don't go well for MG making a major shake up, we may see a knee jerk reaction from FA.

i thought if you're going $7 mil, go short term. OR longer term and cheaper. They didn't do the team any favours, look at Joe Sakic - kept signing one year deals for big money to not handcuff the team. It's obvious they weren't going anywhere else.

Their offense has been steadilly declining 3 years now

The Sedins still have something left to give. They just need to get away from the top checking lines and the top shutdown D. Move them to the 2nd or 3rd line and they will light it up again. The problem we have is there is nothing after the Sedins in form of a second or third line. We need a retool. I disagree about trading Edler. He is young and is a good D just needs some stability. This is also a transition year from AV style to Torts style. There was always going to be some adjustment period. This is it. We need to trade Hammer. His value will not be any higher. He is older and his play will decline. He is also signed to a cap friendly deal. Hamius and Hansen to Philly for Simonds, B Schen. Burrows and Subban to Montreal for Prust.

I like Schenn and Simmonds but they aren't going to turn this around. What they need to do is trade every single player, fire Gillis, get a new coach and build a new stadium. Then and only then will this team be able to compete.
I hope they tank the rest of this year and get a decent pick at the draft. Get the rebuild underway.

As per usual, HankTheTank is the only sane person on this board.

Well, Fosco is still sane in that dry Steven Wright kind of way.

No one liked the extension, not even those of us who are happy they are staying. So if you were taking heat over it, it's because you were acting like an ass!

Agreed. His 5.7mil LTIR would really help us. Too bad Santo only has 550K LTIR.
