Kind of have a feeling he is going to re-sign this week. If he really want to be here, and he is faced with a crap or get off the pot situation, I think he may tell his agent to get the best deal done. That is what I think is going to happen, although I realize I'm in the minority. - Pete V
I think it will resolved very soon, if he's truly going it may happen tomorrow or prior to Tuesday's game. |

I'm not, my sense is we are experiencing the "Robbie Cano" syndrome. Yankees didn't want him back because they didn't want him to be he face of th franchise going forward. We have the same situation here, the organization doesn't want him, so they make a spectacle of his negotiation, so people like you can jump up and down in place and shout how he's not worth the money he's supposed to be asking for. - OLDSCHOOL#6
The Rangers want Ryan Callahan to stay they just don't think he should be paid more than guys like Brown, Backes, Wheeler, Landeskog, Pominville etc. |

would the Yankees be better off right now if they had traded Cano for a package last August? |

Joe Pavelski is a great example. He recently re-signed with San Jose on a six year, 30 million dollar extension.
Who here thinks Callahan is a better player than Joe Pavelski? |

Yes. As I yankee fan I was pretty upset the Yankees chose Beltran over Cano. |

They wouldn't dare trade him while there was a chance they would make the playoffs. |

Pavelski plays on better team. Also plays center. Backers can play both, that's why I mentioned him and not Pavelski. But I understand your point. |

But it was really like they chose Beltran, Ellsbury, Tananka, and McCann over Cano lol |

...and he surely shouldn't be paid close to what Joe Thorton and Patrick Marleau make. |

Well they needed Tananka and McCann. The didn't have a MLB catcher. Plus their pitching was sub par last year. Ellsbury and Beltran were head heartaches. They were the Justin Falk and Benoit Pouliot of the Yankees offseason.

Patrick Sharp makes 5.9 million next year. He and Callahan pay a similar style game. Granted Sharp plays on a line with Hossa and Toews. But Sharp is probably on of, if not the the best, 2-way wings in the NHL. |

Backes also plays on a better team than the Rangers, especially this season.
The position they play is slightly irrelevant, in this particular comparison of players, because the point I am trying to make here is what Pavelski re-signed for.
You don't think Pavelski could have asked for a little more money than he wound up getting. Maybe beause he was a potential RFA, not a UFA, is why he settled on this sort of deal.
Free agent status aside, Pavelski is a flat out better player than Callahan is. The fact he is asking for this kind of money is insulting. Sather is willing to meet the financial demands and for Callahan that should be enough for him to stay.
Seeing that he is pushing it, and wants the maximum amount and length of contract, shows he isn't really down to work out a deal with the Rangers. |
