There are some isles fans that are bull on moulson. Duck is one of them. I am not. Never was a fan. But duck has always liked him cant get mad at him for it. - Cptmjl
I actually wouldn't mind taking a chance on him in free agency if the price was right. But I wouldn't trade Callahan for him. Think we could get a much more appealing offer for Cally. |

I still want him to come back to the Isles, though I believe that ship has sailed. |

Oh, no doubt. But for the rangers to do it they would be repeating the same mistake for the fourth time. - mjh609
All depends on the Trading of Callahan and if Richards is amnestied. If those both of those events occur I expect Stastny to sign a 7 year deal with the Rangers in the neighborhood of 52.5-55 million dollars. |

if matts zuccarello has taught me anything, it's that callahan is not as irreplaceable as i originally thought. if zuccarello doesn't put up the numbers he has to this point, then the callahan trade talks aren't even a topic. but a guy like zucc, whom i think has more talent, has caused callahan's value to drop off a cliff. i think sather's rational is " we don't need two of these guys." - Why So Serious
Players like Zuccarello can get you the playoffs. Players like Callahan can win you Stanley cups.
If of the matter is, Sather owes Cally a million just for scoring that goal in Carolina last year that put them in playoffs. Just think of narrative if they didn't make it |

players like Martin St. Louis were just like Mats Zuccarello at one point. Almost exactly like him at one point.

I'm not going to bash Zuccs, I think he's having a terrific year, and I'm happy for him, but if you think he'll have a major impact against the bigger teams when the playoffs begin, you don't know as much as I thought you did. |

well, you think me saying that Callahan shouldn't get 7 million a year means I don't like him, so you exactly are as dumb as I think you are.

Idk Oldschool, Zuccs is playing with edge this year and isn't afraid of going back at anybody. Plus you cannot deny that he's had a huge impact on making the team scoring a bit more balanced. |

C'mon Jimbro, I never said anything like that. You and many others, do not feel he's worth 7 mil a year, and that's perfectly fine. |

Stastny is going to get more than 7 million for 7 years. He already makes 6.6 million in this last year of his current deal. - tomburton99
I'm not so sure, just because someone overpaid before doesn't mean it's going to happen again, in 4 years I'd rather have Stastny than Richards, we have no other Centers in the system |

I love his game, and possibly he will not be matched up against teams 1st pairing, which could also help him. But make no mistake, he will find room harder and harder to find as real playoff hockey sets in. |

This will be Stastny's only chance to get as much money and years while he's a UFA. He definitely be signing for north of 7 million AAV. |

I know numbers aren't everything, but Zucc was second on the team in points in last year's playoffs, and I personally thought played very well. I also agree that guys like Cally are playoff players, but until this point in his career I can't remember a playoff stretch where he really stamped his mark on the team. And, his offensive stats in the playoffs are actually pretty underwhelming. |

It's clear there are those who feel Callahan isn't worth the money he's getting now, and there are those who feel he's worth a contract for somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 yrs. at 6 mil. Both opinions are well supported, but I have a question. If he leaves and the return is in the form of draft picks or prospects, who gets that money next year? Which player out there will deserve that type of money and will come and bust his a$$ every shift as Callahan does. |

I'd would happily welcome him back for 5 years and 30 million or 6 and 33 or 34. But not for 7 years and 42 million. That contract takes him till he's 36. At age 36 he'd be lucky to play 60 games with his style of play. |

My point was when the playoffs begin you can throw the regular season stats out the window. The game changes, it's much more of dump and grind hockey, as we have all seen, many playoff hero's have come from the 3ed and 4th lines. |

so clearly, you are advocating giving Callahan anything he wants for as long as he wants, he should get it because they are just going to waste the money somewhere else |

But, if you think he is worth $6 million now and are really willing to invest that sort of cap space in him for several years, are you really going to let him walk because you are worried about him sucking in 2021? I am actually worried about the annual hit almost just as much as I am worried about the term, if not more. |

It's real catch 22, 7 years at 42 mil is clearly too much, especially with respect to term. His style of play makes him vulnerable to injury. Agreed. |

Yea I don't see much of a difference in 7 years if you are willing to go 6. It comes down to the cap hit. |
