Girardi is going to be out there when goals are scored against us. That's fact. He is out there when Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Tavares, Kane and every other top player in the league is out there, and those guys score goals no matter what - jimbro83
He and McDonagh did a great job on Tavares the last two games.
Ovechkin is a monster but turns into a shell when the Rangers put the clamps on him. It's often Girardi and McDonagh doing the clamping.
You'd be hard pressed to find a better defensive pairing in the league today. |

I would like to see Malhotra over Moore too, Fast may be ready for a spot next season, he, Kristo and Lindberg are definitely going to push to make the roster, looking through the free agent list the more skilled players are small like Cammy and Setoguchi, there are some other options, maybe Ott as the 3rd line center and whoever acquires Moulson is going to sign him long term, I like that if they do acquire Stewart that he and Statsny have some familiarity - cranford93
I feel you on the Stewart-Stastny connection. Stewart's best point totals were with Stastny in Colorado during the 2009-2010, I believe.
It could be worse if your proposed lineup comes to fruition. All signs are pointing towards Stastny being a Ranger this summer.
Colorado has a plethora of good young players there and Stastny looks like he is ready to test the market. |

Pete I agree with your general point Staal is more important to the D than Cally is to the offense., but the 15 games since Cally has come back we are 11-4-1 and I believe the previous 15 when he was out we were 7-6-2. It may just be a coincidence, but I thought Cally played pretty good when he came back. Who knows, just an interesting stat. - mdw7413
I tend to agree -hard to use typical stats to quantify what
Cally brings. For one, he does get you 25 goals (or more) and although
6 mil is usually spent on a guy who scores more than that -would you rather
Have semin? Cally is pretty unique in new York (mind that tongue twister)
and commands a lot more compensation than his numbers might
Suggest. The big if is whether he will stay at his current level
Of effectiveness for enough of the term; if so, I say he's worth it.

if matts zuccarello has taught me anything, it's that callahan is not as irreplaceable as i originally thought. if zuccarello doesn't put up the numbers he has to this point, then the callahan trade talks aren't even a topic. but a guy like zucc, whom i think has more talent, has caused callahan's value to drop off a cliff. i think sather's rational is " we don't need two of these guys." |

It's a slippery slope here for sure. Personally, I'm not a fan of Sather's and I've seen him dole out big bucks for countless free agent duds here in NY. I'd love to see Sather traded, too bad that's not possible.
I'm sure Ryan Callahan and especially his agent are well aware of those terrible contracts so I don't blame him at all for asking for what he's asking for, get what you can while you can. Cally brings so many things to the table the Rangers laud, yet those same things they are trying to use against him in his contract demands. Maybe he shouldn't play too hard , then Sather will give him that 7th year on his deal. If I'm Ryan Callahan I'm saying David Clarkson can get 7 yrs? But it's a problem for me?
I can't see trading the captain of your team especially in season during a run to the playoffs where the team is doing so well.
It will be interesting to see what happens here, if Sather does trade him he better hit a home run with the return. |

Put Moulson with Nash and you have a solid first line. Move Kreider down with Zucc and you have a much better top six. Moulsons problem is he is terrible defensively, on a team like the rangers, it wont matter one bit. |

Id take Cally over Moulson anyday of the week and twice in Sundays. Trading Cally for a guy who isn't nearly as good as he is who also can walk away as a UFA makes absolute zero sense.
And. Moulson is hurt. |

You guys are worse than Isles fans Moulson is a very good and underrated player. Believe me you would love him on the rangers. He wont block shots and sacrifice his body like Cally, but he will play close to a full season every year while scoring 25-35 goals annually. |

He is hurt and will be out at least until after the Olympics. He is a UFA after the season too. It makes zero sense. Don't have an ego about a dumb idea. Just acknowledge it's a dumb idea and move on. |
