Ya but he's never scored over 20 goals and the most points he's had in a season is 40. Not a terrible loss. What a bust of a draft that was for us. 8 picks in the first 3 rounds (2 in the first 4 in the 2nd) and the only player that panned out was dubi - nyrangers9479
Look what Korpo has give Pheonix and look what Lisin gave us. Korpo never became an elite player. However would you have rather have had Korpo or 5 other guys the Rangers tried on the 3rd & 4th lines? |
|
|
|
It wasn't in the first three rounds, but they did also get Ryan Callahan in the fourth round of that draft. So, while there were alot of misses, getting Dubinsky and Callahan from that draft certaintly takes it out of the bust category, IMO. - Pete V
13 picks that draft. I understand what you're saying about it not being a total bust but with 13 picks and 8 being in the first 3 rounds I would expect more lol.
23 picks total in 2003 and 2004. Only dubi and cally IMO panned out. |

You win some you lose some. I don't think that trade has set us back at all. If Lisin stayed in the nhl I think his numbers would be similar to korpokoski's. |

I think recently we've done better but those early 2000's drafts were brutal |

“Ryan Callahan wants north of $6.5 million and close to $7 million per year. If he gets that in UFA buyer beware. He would be a great fit on 30 teams, he is a heart and soul player but not at almost $7 million. Sather is drumming up interest and wants to see the market entirely.” (Darren Dreger on TSN Drive)
So long Ryan, the more I hear the less I respect where his heart is, just make sure we get a piece back and move on to the next Captain and next chapter, we're not paying upwards of 7 million |

Wow. Just wow. I just knew that he would take the Dustin Brown route. Heartbreaking. |

Dustin Brown's cap hit is 5.8 mil over the six years, Callahan is not worthy of 5.8mil a year? |

dustin brown negotiated his contract himself -- with no agent --at a very fair (imo) $5.8 million.
unfortunately, the values that dreger posted match the ottawa sun's $6.875 million per year quote along with larry brooks' more broad "over $6 million per year" quote. |

That's why I don't care what Darren Dregger, or Bob Mckenzie any of the so called experts say. They're wrong, more than they are right. |

At least according to Dreger he wants almost $7 million a year, so that would put him at approximately $1 million more than Brown's cap hit. If that is true, that is just craziness. I just hope that Callahan's demands don't give Girardi any ideas that he should be asking for that much as well.
At this point, I want no part of this summer's free agent market, because the salaries are just going to be absurd. That would make a guy like Stewart more attractive to me, because at least he's signed through next year.
Dreger and MacKenzie are the goal standard for hockey sources, but Callahan asking for $7 million a year is almost hard to believe. If that's really his position he is gone. I wouldn't even play him until he could be traded. |

Call me crazy, but I find it hard to believe that Callahan is asking for $6.5-$7 M. |

i actually don't think dreger, mckenzie, or even brooks have ever been wrong. ever. i might be missing 1 moment? but those guys are the most reliable sources in hockey.
here's the full report:
“Ryan Callahan wants north of $6.5 million and close to $7 million per year on a seven-year deal. If he gets that in UFA buyer beware. He would be a great fit on 30 teams, he is a heart and soul player but not at almost $7 million. Sather is drumming up interest and wants to see the market entirely.” (Darren Dreger on TSN Drive)
Dreger adds that the Rangers wanted this resolved this week but that may not happen until March 5.
This is now the third report of Callahan wanting more than the originally speculated on $6 million per year for seven-years.
The Ottawa Sun reported $6.85 million yesterday.
Kevin Weekes, this afternoon, said that Callahan was searching for a deal between $6 million and $7 million and closer to $7 million. |

the conspiracy theorist in me thinks the rangers are leaking the $6.5-7M number. no way cally or his agent purposely tell people they're asking for the sun and stars? |

He is. But he's not worth more than Patrick Kane, Toews, Lucic, etc. |

well those guys are also well outperforming their contracts. kane and toews in particular will both get contracts with cap hits over $9.5M if not $10M in a year or 2 and would today if they were UFAs. |

The thing is that if contracts start trending to those levels of expense, a $6 M per year deal for Callahan just ends up looking more and more fair down the road. I mean Sather apparently wouldn't mind $6 M per year, but only over 5 years. If that is really true, then he clearly sees it this way, too. |

Than they won't be in Chicago. As of right now the Hawks don't have the room. Obviously with the cap changing it makes it a tiny bit easier. |

or even hossa? |

The talk has been so active about the money and interested suitors, I bet he's gone before tomorrow's game...Gut feeling.

i actually think he ends up re-signing. but i've come to terms with it if he ends up being traded. i see it as an opportunity to bring back a pure goal scorer to slot onto the 2nd line that can net 30+ goals a year. zuccarello is a great 2nd line winger, but we're still missing the big body that can snipe because we have no one outside of nash...not even kreider can snipe and finish like a pure goal scorer (yet?).
there is no other way we're getting a guy like that without dealing a rental in high-demand like cally. |

No, don't think so, but Cally if the Dreger piece is correct is looking for close to or more than a million North of that number. |

Who the hell knows? These numbers being floated are just crazy. And if they are to be believed, he needs to go. Because nothing says leadership like crippling your teams cap structure and adversely effecting their long term ability to win so you can be crazy, filthy rich, rather than just filthy rich. If this stuff ain't true, Cally better tell his agent to put the kabosh on this poop, because he is starting to look selfish. |
