the Rangers signing him to an entry level contract in January was the first real eye opener to me that the organization must think they have something special here, because Slats never conducts that sort of business during the season.
That's summertime stuff for Slats.
Maybe they project him on the top two lines a lot sooner than anyone could have predicted.
Maybe once his season is over in the QMJHL he is coming straight here and not passing go, and not collecting $200 - jimbro83
I believe He can play in the AHL after his season ends and then next season should be his 1st year of pro |

Now way anyone except his agent can try and justify it, Cally even knows in his mind that maybe the demands a little far north of his worth - cranford93
But he'll get it and possibly more so does it matter if everyone else believes he isn't worth it? One can argue you are worth exactly what someone else is willing to pay you. By that reasoning, Callahan is going to be worth $6MM over seven years if Buffalo's willingness to extend that offer to him this summer is accurate. |

I dont know why the blues would move Stewart without getting more of a gamebreaker sniper instead. They have all the 2 way forwards in the world to compete, they couldnt score last playoffs and were bounced early.
I assume thats the kind of guy they would go after at the deadline (Gaborik/Vanek?) - DDM-Coga
They've got plenty of goal scorers on that team, between Steen, Tarasenko, Oshie, Backes, Schwartz and Shattenkirk on the blue line they've got fire power, Hitch is a lot like Torts, once you get in that dog house you're there for the duration |

Steen and Oshie have more productive years sure helps but I just remembered that LA Series last year. If they match up against them again this season, all hell will break lose. |

i am thinking the exact same thing, we could see this kid by the end of the year if he keeps this up, and he is being compared to evander kane and iginla, not bad at all |

I wonder when the Islanders intend to move Vanek. Given what they gave up for him, I would assume that they would be more resistant to letting him go over to Sochi without moving him, than the Rangers are with Callahan. Should be an interesting week, to say the least. |

You know, I know all the momentum is moving towards a Callahan trade, but I still believe in my gut that he re-signs. I am probably going to be completely wrong about this one, but Callahan knows the stakes right now. He knows there is a very good possibility that he can be traded if he doesn't make a decision soon, and if he really wants to be a Rangers, he'll tell his agent to get it done. Maybe I'm naive and too idealistic. Indeed, that is probably the case.

He's 5' 11"..... Just because he is black doesn't mean he is Kane or Iggy (Someone hadto say it).
"A speedy sniper, Duclair relies on his great skating ability to create chances and has dynamic offensive talent to make the most of the opportunity. With the ability to make plays at top speed and sizzling acceleration, Duclair often only needs the slimmest of openings before he's on the attack. More of a shoot-first player, Duclair's shot is extremely accurate, but he needs to be more consistent. Furthermore, he would be well served to round out his game and add significant strength."
Is that how you'd describe Iggy or Kane? Patrick Kane maybe, not Evander Kane |

I have prepared my heart for it to be broken (for a little while, anyways its not like I am changing allegiances) and if in the end he does re-sign then that must mean Slats is satisfied enough where the planning for the future of this team isn't getting upset and will hopefully continue toward a possible run this season....

I think this is a really difficult choice for the GM.
On one hand, I think any deal that they sign him to is likely to be a bad one in the long run. Even if they sign him to the same deal that they have already been rumored to be offering, I think $6 million per for five years for the type of player that Ryan Callahan is, will likely not turn out to be a good deal for the club, because I don't think that he has nearly enough offense to justify that cap figure.
But, on the other hand, he is the Captain and the heart of the Rangers. They will feel the affect of losing him, maybe not as drastically as some believe, but they will feel his loss.
This one is just tough, and I am seriously conflicted. |

I have a hard time believing the team this year will be better off without him. On the other hand, if his new contract becomes a problem, its hard to imagine the team addressing future needs bc his contract is in the way. Although with the cap continuing to escalate will there come a time that his AAV isn't going to be all that bad. The team doesn't seem to have an issue with $6 as his AAV, they just don't want to pay him when he is 36 or 37 when he may not even be servicable bc of the beating he puts himself through.... |

the Ducks are insane right now and if the season ended today, they'd get the 7th overall pick in the draft from Ottawa, with a chance to win the lottery.
That's effed up - jimbro83
thats what ive alluded to in the past. How many times have the rangers had more than 1 first round pick? If we get a first back for cally, have the first be in next years draft. You never know where the team will end up the following year. Or take the first we get plus our first and get into the top 10. For arguments sake if its stewart and a first. Stewart helps us IMO with size/scoring and makes the team tougher to play against. I love what cally has done for this team but i think from the outside looking in cally is very expendable for the money he wants. IMO hes a top 3rd line player that can play on some of the weaker 2nd lines in the league. You dont pay a guy 6 mil a year over the course of 7 years for that.
Im also very big on the fact hes going on the wrong side of 30 within the first year of his new deal. Look at so many players after 30 that their production/style of play decreases dramatiCALLY. Heatley, Gaborik, Richards, Drury, Gomez, Briere, Stephen Weiss, etc. the list goes on and on. Even Iginla after 32/33 his production has dropped. Not to mention, cally has never been on the level of some of these guys to begin with so where do you see his production at 32. Were guna end up paying him 6 million a year for him to play on the 3rd line. Even if some of you see him as a 2nd line player now, within 2/3 years of his deal he will be on the 3rd line.
This year in a full 82 game season hes on pace for 19 goals and 44 points. 44 points in a full 82 games season is not even close to being worth 6 million a year, i dont care what intangibles you bring to the team. |

I was think more maybe he could be like Ryder, Marchand or Justin Williams. A player good for 15-25 goals and may top out at 30.

Just realized that Callahan and Vanek have the same agent. He may have two clients get moved in fairly short order. I wouldn't mind the % he stands to get from those two guys. |

Ya but he's never scored over 20 goals and the most points he's had in a season is 40. Not a terrible loss. What a bust of a draft that was for us. 8 picks in the first 3 rounds (2 in the first 4 in the 2nd) and the only player that panned out was dubi |

It wasn't in the first three rounds, but they did also get Ryan Callahan in the fourth round of that draft. So, while there were alot of misses, getting Dubinsky and Callahan from that draft certaintly takes it out of the bust category, IMO. |

I understood the point you made.
Just because he's a black kid doesn't me he has to replicate his game after other black players in the league. |
