I guess, but GM's aren't stupid (well some are), why would they make Sather a viable offer this week, when they can wait and see what develops? - OLDSCHOOL#6
Because if you consider Callahan an upgrade to your roster the sooner you bring him aboard the sooner he begins to help your team win games and perhaps the higher playoff seed your club gets. |
|
|
|
I don't know if that's the biggest issue (fear of injury)
Sather seems willing to sign Cally to a 5 year 30 million deal before he leaves for the Olympics.
I think he just wants the pressure of a deadline to get it done wither way - jimbro83
If injury was the biggest fear then he shouldn't be playing this week. Also leads me to believe the deadline is March 5th not Feb 7th....which goes back to a point made earlier, only they know what is being said, they are probably in a room laughing at the media and us.... |

You make sense for sure, I guess we'll know a lot more if Callahan dresses or not tomorrow night. |

That put a real sour taste in my mouth. I wouldn't do 5 years 30M personally. So if he doesn't want that, then trade him. |

there is a strong chance cally does get scratched these next few games. |

AV seems to believe he will be in the lineup and evidently he is on the ice at practice. |

Can't be more than 2 or 3 teams though ( I know it only takes one so I am not disagrreing with your point here). I can see San Jose being a team in that position, Vancouver perhaps, I doubt they want to deal with a team in division or the conference for that matter.
LA I see very much in play for Vanek being that they are so goal starved. |

St. Louis? He's perfect for the way they play the game. Never won a cup. Although perhaps they want to upgrade in goal. |

He practiced fully today, and the coach expects him to play. We will be watching the Hartford shuttle bc they would have to recall JT Miller. |

Rumors aside it makes sense. I could also see Anaheim perhaps being an option. |

ya, but you will have a hard time convincing me they can't win a cup w/o Cally although I guess they would have a 7 game series with Chicago or St. Louis in mind... |

A number of teams could win a Cup without Cally but a player like him improves their chances too. Teams will pay for that upgrade. |

Unless we suddenly see JT Miller has been called up, not sure how anybody could predict Cally gets scratched next two games.
They aren't playing Falk up front. |

I guess we will find out how much they will pay. The chances of the Rangers winning the cup are higher with him on the team too. |

Uh oh, Vanek turns down 7 year $50 million deal from NYI. ($7.15per) And now sounds like NYI will trade him... Ok, I like the idea of Vanek buuut not at the $$ he is asking... Still, a good little shake up for the deadline. |

I'll say this, under no circumstances should Sather make a deal to trade Callahan which does not yield a better return than Sather would be willing to pay to acquire a similar player as a rental. It's the concept of "own rental" in that GMs would forego trading their own pending UFA, even if they think they are going to lose them in the summer, because the player is worth more as an internal rental then what they could acquire for him on the market.
Put differently, the package coming in return better be pretty sweet to trade your Captain at the trade deadline when the club is playing well. A couple of second rounders, and a B level prospect wouldn't cut it. |

the Ducks are insane right now and if the season ended today, they'd get the 7th overall pick in the draft from Ottawa, with a chance to win the lottery.
That's effed up |

Sather is not going to get a very good haul for Callahan in a mid-season trade. There is really no significant benefit to trading Callahan unless you firmly believe that something, anything in return for Callahan is a good deal. They're either going to end up keeping him and letting him walk as a UFA or working out an extension. |

I am expecting him not to be with the Rangers, that way when he really is gone I can't say I'm surprised and if they re-sign him without killing the team going forward I will be happier than a pig in slop |

How does Stewart plus St. Louis #1 for Callahan and Rangers #2 sound? |

You forgot to include that the Blues would have to throw in the white flag the Rangers would have to wave to announce the end of the 2013-14 season.
Edit: that sentence sucked. But y'all get the point |

Chris stewart would not end our season. It may even take us up a notch. |

While intangibles may not be worth $6M a year, they would be worth more than whatever Chris Stewart could bring for this season. |
