He's def been good for the leafs this year, but keep in mind he has to have had a bit of chip after not getting a contract so there no telling if this continues. So this might be a one off.

Agreed. Unless e wants to sign. 3 deal at 1.5 then you sign that poop on gold leaf paper.

I agree with most in the article. One issue I had with it that maybe I read to much into was the Gillis quote on the NTC.

Gillis openly complained about JTs style of coaching last year and probably was against bringing him in as head coach. FA was a fan of Torts and probably instructed MG to hire him.

I have a feeling Gillis spends a ton of time trying to convince FA to let him do his job and make his own decisions.

Gillis won't ask a player to waive his NTC, lets hope the players are asking to be moved at the draft or the TDL.

He's essentially said he's not going to ask a player to waive a no-trade clause, which means Hamhuis, Bieksa, Garrison, Edler, Burrows, Kesler, Higgins and Luongo won't be traded. So how to we get better…you follow the same path which is trading away your youth and your picks to plug holes, or, you wait patiently while younger players grow into what you hoped when you drafted them. All the while your older players are getting that much older.

Do you see a pattern there, its the same poop that you see now. Neither of those methods will allow this team to compete in the West any time soon. So what's the point of having him really?

We should be rebuilding around these players. Insert some youth next year and this core will make younger players better. Any GM in the league would be happy to start with this group and build around them. Rebuild does not mean destroy your core.

What youth…where are you thinking they're coming from? We have two players who could possible make the team, they're not going to make us better than the top teams in the West. The point is to win a Stanley Cup.
