Its funny. The market for Edler is probably gonna be one or 2 very nice young players and another meh young asset.
Girardi will undoubtably be that guy at the deadline who brings a young roster player, top prospect and 1st. There is a pending Ufa basically every yr that brings this.
Now while Edler will be a bit more expensive, you have control for 5 yrs rather then 2 months - Bieksa#3
I think that TB would look at Girardi in the off-season. I'd be shocked (pleasantly, mind you) if SY could pull that off at the trade deadline. Nice thing about having so many prospects is that it's okay to pay the high price for the right player. We'll see. |

Perhaps Gilles is sitting on RoR for Edler. Value wise its fair and makes sense for both teams. RoR even fits the mold of the type of player Gilles has targeted in drafting and trades since the finals loss - Bieksa#3
and colorado does need defense, thats their weakness |

idk still to early on him, ive never been high on him though.
ive felt that detroit has to make a deal.
they have guys in the minors not even mentioned here
ferraro,sproul,frk,pulkkinen,callahan,oulette,jarnkrok
there seems to be a lot more potential NHL players then there is spots on a nhl team. - Jurco_28
Problem is guys who project a 3rd liners, get you 3rd liners in return. You want a top pairing d man or top one forward, your gonna pay with bluechippers |

Given what Dion just got, plus the huge amount of money every team has in FA due to the cap jump. I see Girardi getting close to 7 mill. Look at the contracts handed out last yr to average players, and most teams were tight against the cap. I say the Islanders open their wallet. They need him |

I think you will all be surprised with MG after the olympic break. |

I want to see MG with some glitter to go with his shine
I hope MG does something, but if his previous record is any indication of the future, we shouldn't expect much unless Chunk has some insider info...
I want to say I'm in the camp for some trades and a shakeup, is there a camp that wants to "hold fast" and ride out the storm? |

You never know, GMs aren't stupid. Well most arent They hear the public cries. The hardest thing to do is make people accept a retool/rebuild. That appears to be done as long as ownership accepts.

van just needs to re-tool this offseason
make a trade or signings. still have lou and a solid defense. they just need to add players to supplement the sedins now that father time may be catching upto them. |

This losing streak will end as will the injuries. Its just tough hockey to watch right now. Moves need to be made yes but I am not ready to trade everyone away. I think a few players need a change of scenery and that could benefit the players and the team. I have my few I wouldn't move other than the Sedins but everyone should remain available for the right price. |

If Vancouver does not look like they are going anywhere if they make the playoffs, they should start retooling sooner. Guessing if GM's weren't aware who was available on Vancouver, they should know now since Bob Mac spelled it out... But if you have to spell it out, it doesn't sound like we are dealing from a position of strength.
Curious to see what Stempniak will garner in a trade.
edit: "retool" to me means a few moves to address weaknesses without wholesale changes. Rebuild to me means we expect to suck for a few years as we just traded away the present for the future. |

?
If Vancouver sells at the deadline, they are unquestionably dealing from position of strength. Its not even debatable. Any team selling at the deadline is dealing from a position of strength. 15-20 buyerw and about 5 sellers with the rest standing pat.
What you hope for is one of the big dogs/picks up a great player about a week before the deadline. Then everybody feels the need to match it so they don't have a edge |

Anyone who plays anyone in the west is going to be beat up by the end of any series. I look to which ever team can make it through the first 7 game series healthiest. |

See this is what makes Stl such a scare team. Take any single player away and they aren't affected that bad.
Crosby
Malkin
Chara
Rask
Keith
Doughty
Kane
Toews
Perry
Getzlaf
Any of these players get hurt, long term in the playoffs and their team is toast |
