I could be totally off base here, but I don't think that Edler is what TB will be looking for. There's enough puck movement on that back end with Hedman, Carle, Barberio, and then a bunch of the prospects coming up. I think they're looking for a right-handed defensive defenseman (See: Girardi, Dan). - Michael_Stuart

Its funny. The market for Edler is probably gonna be one or 2 very nice young players and another meh young asset.
Girardi will undoubtably be that guy at the deadline who brings a young roster player, top prospect and 1st. There is a pending Ufa basically every yr that brings this.
Now while Edler will be a bit more expensive, you have control for 5 yrs rather then 2 months |

I'm not disagreeing, but Edler is wildly inconsistent and has had a poor season to date. No responsible GM should be parting with valuable assets for a player like that, especially when they're a very solid cup contender. Bieksa or Hamhuis might be more of what they'd be after. - AlexF
I dunno, I think Edler and Bieksa can make equally boneheaded plays... Bring back special Ed! |

Teams get stupid at deadline, fansying themselves contenders. Edler is a guy who has top pairing talent that he has regularly displayed. And at 28 just entering his prime as a d man. Bad season or not Would unquestionably be the best defender available |

GMMG likes to keep his cards close to his vest... Wonder where Bob Mac heard that tidbit? A controlled leak? GMMG is the same guy who said he wouldn't be asking guys with ntc/nmc if they want to be dealt. Clusterfack. - hillbillydeluxe

Even Hamhuis might go to the ducks. Close to home and play for a contender. Personally I'm with DCT in saying hamhuis value is never gonna be higher then it presently is. GMs will have a artificially high option of him due to his spot on Canada's blueline |

It is still unclear to me how exactly that went down.
MG- would you consider a trade to Toronto?
Lou- I'd rather go to a Florida team. Can you trade me there?
MG- (getting sweaty) ok, i'll talk to them...
I think MG is in over his head if he doesn't talk to his players |

I'm good with trading anyone for the right price and moving Hamhuis now for some quality youth would make for some savvy GM'ing IMO. That's why it won't happen. |

Nope. Detroit has been clearing a lot of cap space |

I think both you and I know that Gillis doesn't have the balls to pull that off. If it were Holmgren on the other hand... |

Have you seen our line up, or AHL team for that matter, lately? It's scary shallow. |

Et me ask you. Dispite his bad season, I think Edler is viewed by most as a top pairing d man. One with a sweetheart of a contract. What do you think is fair? |

i hadnt realized the canucks farm system and AHL players were in such a bad state. I thought they were a a decent drafting team... |

sticking point is going to be the 1st that VAN wants..
also its going to be harder for DET to give up their younger guys and they have liked what they have seen from them.. |

I think you are being too kind, shallow indicates some depth... scraping the barrel right now.
