Mtl is 5th in the tie conference, we are in 8th, we could be in 9th once the games in hand cycle out. Sure we are 2 points ahead of mtl, but again games in hand. - I-own_da-Northwest
Oh, maybe he should make a trade like the Islanders did to bring in Vanek. |

I think it's time to ask the right question and get some answers. The most important question is this: What is the goal of this team? If the answer is 'to make the playoffs', then hold the course. As it stands the Canucks are most likely going to be in. If the correct answer is to 'win the Cup', now is the time to make some large decisions about the future direction of this team. As we have witnessed, and as it has been shown statistically on may websites, this team is on a slow downhill slide from their peak in 10-11. Is this team in its current incarnation going to challenge for the cup, let alone win, this year or next? Barring some sort of divine intervention, I think not. As much as I hate to say it, it's time to trade Kesler and Edler. It hurts me to mention trading Kesler, as he is a heart and soul player on this team as has been his whole career, but time stands still for no one. My logic behind this is two-fold. First is Kesler can still bring back a good return. Canucks biggest need is a younger first line center. Seguin got traded, who's to say some playoff bound team wouldn't give up an extremely promising 22 year old for a player like Kesler. Second is this could mean next year the Sedins could be our second line a get more favourable matchups. This also means its time to start dumping the older expensive forwards we currently have. Not all of course - we need some to show the way forward- but dangle them and see what they can bring in. The Canucks need change at forwards and I personally would rather lose with youngsters, knowing there would be better times ahead, than lose with vets knowing it will just get worse. As to Edler, it is becoming apparent he will not live up to his 'Norris potential' billing in Vancouver and probably not anywhere else either. Trade him while he is still greatly desired by some teams and before they figure out what we already know. While he is a high-minute man, his inconsistency makes him hard to play with and even harder to watch play. The returns on these two should complement the decent draft we've has the last 2 years and maybe by this time next year the Canucks could be fighting for a playoff spot with younger, more invigorated players. Things are getting very stale now and change is needed. |

He needs to poop or get off the pot. Are we rebuilding or going for a cup? If the answer is neither, I'm gonna fiddle (frank) until we we become what the flames/oilers are, then he should be fired. |

Sound advice.
Why didn't anybody else think of this...
This Canucks team is miles better than the Flames or Oilers at the time they began their rebuilds and so is the prospect pool.
The same drastic measures are not needed. |

If you seriously think these are the only two options available there is not much to say. |

I've got a used Booth for ya, kinda good condition and plenty of potential. On sale for a limited time only. |

Given the standings and the needs of both teams are the canucks and red wings not ideal trading partners.
They want Edler we need some young forwards. Forget the trade in the summer that was offered as that is gone. Forget all this lopsided rip off crap is well trade from strength to weakness. What about a deal like this.
To Detroit
Edler Gaunce
To Van
Nyquist, Mantha 2nd
or something to the likes of this just figure it out.
Buy out Booth
Sign Callahan
Sedin Sedin Burr
Callahan Kesler Nyquist
Higgins Horvat Kassian
Santo Richardson Sesty
Archibald
D is fine Corrado comes up in place of Edler
Shinkaruk and Mantha set in 2 more years and possibly jensen
All of a sudden the rebuild is essentially done with three young blue liners and a glutton of young forwards with skill and size mixed in |

That's not a good deal for the Canucks.
Two established young NHLers and a pick for a small prospect showing moderate NHL ability and another who has yet to play any level of pro hockey.
Mantha is definitely skilled, but his effort/compete levels have been questioned way too much, and I'm not so certain his Mickey-Mouse JR moves will work against men.
Nope. Not for what the Canucks are giving up.

We have 27 games left this season. Out of that 27 I think 15 are with the western conference and 12 are with the Eastern Conference. Based on how we have done this season vs each conference our record will look something like this vs each conference.
Eastern 6 - 4 - 2 (14 pts)
Western 7 - 5 - 3 (17pts)
We currently have 63 pts. My rock solid projections have us coming in at 94 pts. I don't think that gets us into the playoffs.
8th seed last few years has been (97, 95, 95 pts). |

We're 12-5-2 against the east aren't we? That would project more like 8-3-1. |

We are 12 - 5 - 4.
6 - 3- 3 or even a 7 - 3 - 2. Something in that range. But I guess that gets us in the playoffs. Yes. We can all relax. |

Okay how about option 3) be a 6th-12th place team in the west, make sure we can get slaughtered in the first rd if we happen to make it. Rinse, repeat. Keep this up until our core is 40 and then rebuild? If we do option 3, I think gillis is nailing it and should win another gm of the year award. - I-own_da-Northwest
But that's not a foregone conclusion.
A couple of good moves and signings in the offseason and a few prospects stepping up can change the downward trajectory.
It doesn't have to be a full rebuild.
Just don't expect the moves now, because there are too many obstacles. |

No matter how much fans panic, nor who the GM is, this much won't change. |
