It just makes me think about why NJ has never been able to grow, trade for, or sign a bonafide superstar on offense and actually keep that player around. Sometimes it almost seems like having someone like that just causes problems. It's weird. Is it a culture thing, that Lou has engraved into guys heads like Elias etc after all these years? I mean lokk, it's nice to go around singing There's no I in team, etc but when a team struggles offensively, sometimes a player taking a team on their back and just doing it all themselves IS what they need (Kovy, Parise). Obvioudly, we don't have anyone like that on this roster but maybe this is the reason WHY they all leave? The organization's culture actually discourages the superstar "do-it-all" mentality.

I understand that and I'm not asking for an Ovechkin type guy where the team is nothing without him. It would just be nice to have a guy that we can count on to get us that late clutch goal. Honest question: Two minutes left, Devils are down a goal or tied. who can we rely on to give us a chance at scoring? Who do the players an coaches turn to and say "get out there and get us one". I'll wait. |
