That one PP shift, you could tell he wanted to crawl into a hole and hide. I don't hate the guy, I can see the effort is there, the confidence on the point is dwindling. He knows his mobility is an issue. - mykokes
i dont feel sorry at all. why? cause he isnt fleet footed? neither is gleason.. difference is he knows he has to use his body and have strong positioning to compensate.
franson just needs to get over his i'm an offensive d-man attitude and start playing a more conservative game.

We've just been using him in the wrong role, who knew his role was going to be the sky box. |

I figure that this is the night that we lose about 7 - 2. They'll hang Reimer out to dry, breakaway's, two on one's, three on one's. Gardiner will be coughing up turnovers, Franson will get caught out of position, Phaneuf will look like he's out of gas. Phil will get his goal and assist, Kadri will be back in the doghouse and everyone will be calling for changes after a devastating loss. So book this one as +2 for the homeside on your Pro-line ticket. Might as well put Ranger and Fraser out there and rest the veteran's. |

I thought Bodie struggled last night. That one shift he couldn't stay on his feet with any contact. |

Naw, just a realist. This team is due for a dud, after winning 5 in a row. Long roadtrips and quick turnaround games are a bad recipe, especially for this defensively challenged team.

The problem I think with Ashton and our attitudes towards him is that he was brought up at 20 years of age (when most guys of his ilk are either coasting in their overage year in junior) or just getting used to the AHL level and what we saw was another Christian Hanson/Brayden Irwin. The fact is though he was only 20 and not some found wallet. Because he went pointless then, and then regressed badly last season in the AHL doing the things he should've been doing the year before (because some idiot thought the NHL would be good for him), we wrote him off. The kid has worked his ass off, I see it in the 4 or 5 minutes he plays. He's on the right side of the puck all the time, but one mistake (usually because Orr or McLaren aren't where they're supposed to be) and bam, we all say he sucks. I think he's going to be a very useful 3rd liner, if not here, but somewhere else. His AHL numbers are pretty stellar this season too. |

from what I have read he was an effective player in NJ.. with PP time and a very decent possession team. In TO he is lost
might be the biggest contract mistake ever

to be fair, the Leaf's winning percentage goes up with each win... regardless of whether other teams have games in hand or not... they still need to win those games in hand. - Feeling Glucky?
... and it probably impossible that ALL those teams will win all those games in hand.
If it not impossible, it is unlikely. Most of the teams battling it out with the Leafs are mediocre teams just like the Leafs.
The fact is, with one bad week the Leafs could fall out of a playoff spot. A stretch of 2 or 3 bad weeks and they might not be able to recover.
So, to suggest we have solidified a playoff spot is ridiculous.
I still think 4 points on the road trip would be a good accomplishment.

Franson looks like he's been taking power skating lessons from David Steckel - Dozzer
Someone mentioned Gleason was slow. Those (frank)ers have never seen Franson skate, plus Gleason can actually skate pretty well and looks to be very strong on his skates.
I loved the one shift where Gleason has two guys forechecking him and he calmly protects the puck with his body - the puck in close to him and slides a nice short pass to a Leaf and out they go. Composure - it's a pretty cool thing to have when you're a defenseman. |

Too early to tell. With the two suspensions and two injury time outs, he hasn't gotten into sync. Give him at last this year and next, before you write him off. His value will be down the stretch and into the playoffs.

I think he's won a lot of us over in a short time frame. His numbers look ugly, but when the game's on the line, he seems to really step up. |

Yeah I have been watching him closely and with guys like him .... why we signed DC for a 3rd line role .... is even more beyond me. |
