No, not your logic. Your logic is that if a player isn't leading their team to the promised land, they aren't good.... and yet Gio somehow is.


Kessel and Phaneuf may well be out of their prime when the Leafs are a real competitive team, it's true. But at that time Gio would be even further out than they are, and an upcoming UFA, while Gardiner would be entering his prime.

I'd rather have an in-his prime Gardiner than Gio, years removed from his, coming up on free agency. That's just me though.

No doubt. Younger teams would be silly to acquire veteran defensive help to make a push. It sure worked out terrible for Anaheim.

For me, "No, don't want him" was in the context of the arguement here.

Of course we would want to have him. Every single team in the League would want him.

You also have to remember, the Leafs have a history of giving up on young Dmen and trading youth for vets.

That kind of thinking has brought us 46 years and counting of no cups.
