Cant see the Leafs winning tonight..... back to back games, rested Colorado team that skates very quick, low oxygen up there in Denver.....gonna be a tough one...

If they do win, they are the greatest Leaf team in the history of mankind!!

That is possible, I won't deny that.

But I still think the Leafs need to really be competitive before making these types of trades...

Like, win 1 series, maybe two.

Something to signal that they're done the major part of their rebuild.

There's still no clear cut #1C on the team, and we're still not 100% sure on the goalie situation. Obviously it looks pretty good, but neither guy has been a full starter yet.

I'd rather use pieces like Gardiner on a true #1C than on a defenseman, especially given the prospects we have at D.

You came within a game, a period really, of knocking off perhaps the best team in the east. That's not a big enough signal for ya'?

How often do we see fans from other teams come here telling us the Leafs are better than we think they are?

There must be something really wrong with Gio for you to want to unload him this bad.

I guess that explains why he isn't leading the Flames to the promised land.

Imagine if the Leafs had Gio for that game!!!

Than again, Gardiner played pretty damn amazing that series too.

Where should I start?

Giodano has 22 points in 32 games.....0.69 points per game

Gardiner has 16 points in 49 games.....0.33 points per game

I am not saying Gardiner doesn't have a ton of offensive talent....but right now Gio is more than doubling Gardiner's production...

Gio is -2 on a team with the second worst goal differential in the league (-48) which the Leafs are only -9. And not only does he play on a horrid team, he leads that team in AVG ice time. Not only that, but he constantly faces the other teams top lines, making the fact that he is -2 a borderline fcking miracle.

Not only that but he also plays in all situations (both PP and SH) and is a shot blocking machine............

Shame on you

I'm just trying to stock the cupboards.

If you think the Leafs don't need Gio because they "aren't quite there yet"...why the hell would the Flames need him?

Do you really suggest we give up on a 23 year old Dman with that kind of upside.

You would be among those laughing at us when Giordano is a contract buyout at 34 and Gardiner is an all star with some other team.

The age, and the fact that we are talking about a young Dman is a showstopper IMHO.

In what way does the trade make sense for the Leafs. The Leafs are barely further along than the Flames.

Giordano will not be around if Calgary ever rounds into a contender. He also won't be around if this Leafs core becomes a contender.

I get that you are Calgary fans, but seriously guys, The Leafs have been laughed at by people for DECADES for making this exact kind of trade.

No.

At Gardiner's age, Giordano wasn't even a full time NHLer yet.

Gardiner's potential is very high, if he can round out the other parts of his game.

Gio is what he is, and will be on the decline shortly.

Leafs are still years away from competing.

It just doesn't make sense for the Leafs.

Great. I wouldn't trade Gio straight up for Gards either, so in a sense we agree.
