Been through that with the Hawks too. I know the feeling.

Just stick with our team. NEVER trade away our youth again. And when a piece is offered. Jump on it.

Phaneuf is in desperate need of a real partner. It'll really help his game. But (frank) throwing away future for now. Now can go either way.

Gluck. I don't think you realize how good Gio is. Add him to the mix and your back end gets rock solid. He is 30. He has at least 5 good years left. Also, some real solid veteran leadership to bring the young prospects in the system along.
- Elbows15

That is possible, I won't deny that.

But I still think the Leafs need to really be competitive before making these types of trades...

Like, win 1 series, maybe two.

Something to signal that they're done the major part of their rebuild.

There's still no clear cut #1C on the team, and we're still not 100% sure on the goalie situation. Obviously it looks pretty good, but neither guy has been a full starter yet.

I'd rather use pieces like Gardiner on a true #1C than on a defenseman, especially given the prospects we have at D.

Trust me when I say that a lack of veteran presence during a rebuild is a baaad idea lol.
- sanfordnson

So true...Leaf fans need to understand this.
We do need some vets...but not at the cost of our quality youth.

They're competing for a playoff spot every year now. That's getting pretty close.

- sanfordnson

No. Making the playoffs and being a contender are two different things.

30 years means he'll be out of his prime while the Leafs are competing, while Gardiner would be entering his.
- Feeling Glucky?

Out of his prime doesn't mean he won't still be very effective. 30yrs old for a dman is not old - could have 6+ yrs of quality hockey in him...and he is signed for another 2 yrs at great contract.

Although he does look good, Gardiner is still a bit of a risk and no sure thing - I wouldn't stack him up against Rielly.

If we could turn Gardiner into Gio....I think it would be a mistake not to.

OK......

So it seems like Gio for Gardiner and a First is in the ballpark anyway...general sentiment maybe the Flames win that deal slightly....

So if you add Glencross for Clarkson.....

Isn't Glencross >>> Clarkson, especially given his contract?

This is all hypothetical assuming Glencross is 100% healthy.

Does Gio and Glencross not make the Leafs A LOT better?

Not so much an insurance scam... they try to get you to avoid going through insurance(so your premiums don't go up)... and then start piling medical costs on you, and sue you when you say you aren't paying anymore.

I knew the guy who did it to me was scamming me right off the bat. He did a quick signal to turn into a gas station, I couldn't avoid him(i was pretty far back, but it was slick, and he took his time with the actual turn). Second he got out of the car he asked me if I had called the cops, and said he did(without checking for damage). And then after they came, he left without even filling up his tank.

Next day he called me asking for 1300 to replace his entire bumper, and started talking about how his back was hurting.

The damage? One of the plastic screws that keeps my license plate in was stuck in his bumper.

Nah. I'd want younger. Like an Eric Johnson. the next 5-7 years is our window. I want a guy in his prime not on his way out (not that he wont still be good)

The starter was traded for in the summer and he has clearly become what he was traded for.....the starter!
Our young dmen are pretty far away from being quality in the NHL. We can survive with the centers we have for now...Bozak is improving...is he 1C quality no....but its working.
We need to shore up our D badly.

I think you mean:

Glencross/Giordano/2nd

for

Clarkson/Gardiner/1st

???

Yeah....that's not too bad....

Given the Flames will be a top 3 maybe I would say a third instead of a second.

The thing is, is that there are a lot of teams that would give up a guy like Gardiner and a First right now.....like, maybe the Pens.

So if the Leafs don't feel the timing is right, then I understand.

But they need a guy just like Gio in the worst way IMO.
