The argument could be made that they allow more shots against when they're winning, and are sitting back defensively.
But we know that's not true. They get outshot 12-0 in the first 10 minutes before they remember they have to play. ![](https://hbcf.s3.amazonaws.com/images/emoticons/lol.gif) - Feeling Glucky?
Shots were about even when the Leafs got their 3rd last night ...then they roll back into "prevent defence" (which they suck at) and let the Yotes fire away.
And a little fuel to the "do fighters influence a game" debate ...

been present for two deaths in my career. one was a guy caught near the shale shaker without a mask on.
the other was a well tester that had a valve blow through his chest. the idiots had a stabbing valve on top of the wellhead and didn't bother bleeding off before they sent this kid in too open it up. Still amazed he managed to even get it open.
I realize that statement probably makes no sense to anyone, but trust me, it was gross negligence at best. Heads rolled and now everyone has to equalize with nitrogen. Stupid. - sanfordnson

2435356324532145432 will agree...our team is sh!t. Perhaps the Panthers are a better team than the Oilers, but "better than the Oilers" is about the best you can say about that hapless band of misfits.

Soooo who thinks I should start Martin Jones tonight vs Columbus?
Columbus has been hot and I'm worried Jones will get lit up. Our goalie categories are W, GAA, SV% and SO. - markmark
i have just added goalie bob in my pool, based on how my year has gone.... Jones is money tonight!! |

The problem I think with Ashton and our attitudes towards him is that he was brought up at 20 years of age (when most guys of his ilk are either coasting in their overage year in junior) or just getting used to the AHL level and what we saw was another Christian Hanson/Brayden Irwin. The fact is though he was only 20 and not some found wallet. Because he went pointless then, and then regressed badly last season in the AHL doing the things he should've been doing the year before (because some idiot thought the NHL would be good for him), we wrote him off. The kid has worked his ass off, I see it in the 4 or 5 minutes he plays. He's on the right side of the puck all the time, but one mistake (usually because Orr or McLaren aren't where they're supposed to be) and bam, we all say he sucks. I think he's going to be a very useful 3rd liner, if not here, but somewhere else. His AHL numbers are pretty stellar this season too.

Well said but some of us ![](https://hbcf.s3.amazonaws.com/images/emoticons/thumbsup.gif) always thought Ashton could be a solid nhler. The kid's mainly been a top 6 forward for all his minor teams but obviously isn't going to warrant anything but bottom 6 mins. So what does he do? He uses his size and fights. This guy fights knowing that he'll most likely get his nose broken but it'll appease Carlyle. That's endearing and when you see how he's constantly improving it's easy to root for him. He just desperately needs to pop his first, you can see how hungry he is for it.
Now since leafsnation is starting to come around on Ashton let's hope Carlyle does as well. No more of this bodie on the 3rd line poop. Get Ashton going cause with May Ray and Kuli potentially leaving at the end of the season you will need guys to get bumped up. Bodie, d'amigo and Leivo aren't the answer for a permeant third line job - Ashton is. And as long as Ashton keeps improving and doesn't make anymore glaring mistakes (delay of game penalty that saw him sent down) he'll continue to win the coach and fans over. I really hope leafs management sticks with him and more minutes are awarded to him. |

How many posts have been hit on Bernier this year.. I feel like Mrs. Posts and Mr. Crossbar deserve to be the first star on most nights. That couple has probably won us at least a handful of games. |

I am tired of seeing guys who are not long term solutions like Bodie getting minutes over a guy like Ashton as well. He's got great size and needs more minutes definitely. I agree that D'Amigo and Leivo aren't permanent 3rd line options at the moment, but Leivo definitely has much higher point production upside than Ashton the kid has a really nice release and more offensive tools. It definitely is only a matter of Ashton finally popping in his first to get some confidence and see what he can really do though.
Spencer Abbott is really heating up in the A, too bad he is just too small for the pro's and already 25. |
