Wow! didn't know that.

It's certain areas of LA that give the whole city a bad rep. The crime rate is actually higher down here in San Diego, but I doubt anyone really thinks of LA safer than San Diego.

LA and Vancouver are quite similar in crime rate. 0.03 (Vancouver) vs 0.08 (LA) for murder per 1,000 people, 1 in 281
chance of being a victim vs 1 in 201 for LA.

In crime index from 1 being worse and 100 being safest Vancouver gets a score of 13. LA? 28. And LA has nearly 4 times the population of Vancouver.

Nice try though.

I'm guessing the stats are for the municipalities themselves, and not the metro regions, which makes a big difference.

The City of Los Angeles is a sprawling city (500+ square miles) that includes both a downtown core as well as more suburban-ish areas. The population density is about 8,000 per square mile, and almost half of the metro population lives in the city itself.

The City of Vancouver is less than one tenth the size of Los Angeles in geographic area (just 44 square miles) and makes up a much smaller percentage of its metro area and population (Vancouver proper barely has 600k residents, which is even fewer than Winnipeg). As a result, the city itself includes pretty much just the urban core (population density is over 13,000 per square mile), which is where you'd expect the higher crime rates to be.

Now, if the numbers are actually for the metros that's different, but I don't put a ton of stock into crime stats because you're usually comparing apples to oranges. City A might have a lower crime rate throughout every individual region of its metro area than City B, but depending on where the boundaries of the cities are drawn City A might have a higher listed crime rate than City B, because the municipal boundaries only include the highest-crime areas of the metro region.

Just for the sake of ignorant curiousity...............Are you that stupid or just trying to get a reaction from Kings fans, as in Trolling?

I believe he is an on - ice referee or linesman in the NHL. He is also a close personal friend of Ryan Clowe.

This is no different than Doughty diving and drawing a penalty then scoring the winner.

Bad calls happen all the time, it's pretty funny hearing you guys whine like you've been the only team to have a bad call go against them.

poop happens, get over it.

- dshiddy

This was not a subjective call like goalie interference, kicking the puck into the net. It was cut and dry.

And you were the troll that said it hit off the glass, just to add to the a$$ effect of your comment

Now that I've seen it a few times, I now think it may have hit the net.

I believe it, considering Mexico is right along the border. Also, LA has so many anti-gang task forces/prevention patrols its's unbelievable. Plus, all of the vouchers given out to people in poor areas to move out of the city and into areas such Fresno. Rebuilding old/poor areas has helped as well.

Coaches currently have the ability to request an examination of a players stick curvature (has anyone ever used that before or after 1993).

Aren't you from Los Angeles?

4 seasons of LA.

Fires Mudslides Earthquakes Riots

The city where police chases happen daily, helicopters constantly flying over the city...and you are chirping about my beautiful city?

Los Angeles is the worst us city I've ever been to, And I lived there for a year...so I know all about that grotesque place. No culture our vibe, just an open blank space.

There is one thing that makes me dislike the NHL over any other pro sports. The other leagues admit that the refs THEY hired made a mistake that changed the outcome of the game. NHL for some reason feels the need to back the refs up regardless of how moronic the call was. They even go as far as fines for players/coaches who speak against them, although they have the right to. They need to get their head out of their asses NOW. Bullpoop.

I have no issue with the Red Wings regarding the call last night, it's the NHL that blew it. This could have happened in any game and it's a total embarrassment to the league.

I hope this is all around the sporting world for the next week to see sportscasters making fun of the league and the stupidity of things like this.

Its cause the refs have a hard on for detroit. They get away with everything im not surprised this happened. Only team in the league that is allowed to throw pick plays all game long.
- Oilfan19

Came here to say this. No one believes me, but Detroit is the only team in the league that consistently gets away with ridiculous amounts of interference, like every single time I watch them play.

There isn't a team that gets handed power plays and 5 on 3s late in games when trailing or tied than the Detroit Red Wings.

I'm sure you're laughing at vancouver's attempts to be a tough team by being the same dirty cheap team they've always been these last few games? Remember you still lost to Dustin brown again there buddy!

That's twice this has happened to the Kings in less then a month, Only the Sharks didn't score. But they came real close..

The NHL needs to fix the rule book, And not make Excuses...

Maybe they should also make the puck glow, the nets bigger, take away the centre line, add an instigator rule to stop fighting, make home teams wear dark jerseys...

Let's just see, at the end of the year, if this had playoff implications. Detroit is life and death to make the playoffs, in the east this year. A year ago, if you would have taken two points away from the Wings, they would have missed the playoffs, in the west. I will make a point of remembering this and see which team gets stiffed, because of it.

agreed.

Wings benefitted, but all teams get breaks/unlucky ones -- this one was rough for the Kings though, i will admit. At least they got a point and stilll a chance to win it in the SO.
